The court of Common Pleas was i opened on Wednesday after the criminal court cases had been disposed of and the grand jury had been discharged. , The cases arranged for trial were , disposed of by the court as follows* Claredy vs Couway, Coast & Western Railroad Company was 1 compromised by the parties before , iMtnl i til mi. i Iii the eas3 of G J. Holliday, 1 * ~ plaintiff vs W V. Best, defendant, 1 was tried and resulted in a verdict ! for the plaintiff, which, with inter- < est and costs, amounted to the sum 5 of nearly $1000.00. The suit was J brought on a note executed to the ' late Mr J. W, Holliday by W. V. Best, the defendant in 1901. After * the death of J. W. Holliday the note fell to the plaintiff, G. J. Holliday, < who entered the suit in 1908. The 1 I case was hard fought, the defend ant represented by Hon R. B Scar- ?' * borough and the plaintiff by H. H. 1 Woodward, E-q. i The case of Commerce Trust Co . 1 vs B. T. flyman et al., and another case of the same nature, was con J tinned. This case is one which is i brought to recover some notes giv- 1 en by various citizens of the county for the purchase money of a coach ' horse. ( The case of Collins vs Stalvey was < continued until the next term of court. i In the case of Wolfe Bros. Shoe 1 Co., vs Dusenhurv & Co., the Judge directed a verdict for the plaintiff. (Juvaillrt jr at Lorl?. Dear Editor: I have been asked to write a brief account of the unvaillng of the monumeut in memory of the late A. Fletcher Prince at Boris. The following camp3 were represented: Toddvillo, Tilly Swamp, Conway, Home wood, Bayboro, Boris, Galivants, Green Sea, Nichols, Tabor and Board man. At least one hundred aud fifty stalwart Woodmen were marched out of the yard of the home under the command of Capt J. Q. Graham. The quartetie, under command of Cabot Stanley, marched in front. In the rear were the following members of the family in busies: The mother, Mrs Mary A. Prince; Mrs A. P. Prince; Mrs J. G. Heaves, a sister; Messrs J. T\, W. A , N. E., Geo. L. and J. M. Prince, all brothers. Mrs F. A. Prince and Mrs Louis Suggs were not present on account of sickness. The procession proceeded to the cemetery, a distance of a half a mile All marched in by two guards at the gate, who had the cemetery vacated and the way cleared. AT THE GRAVE, The first song by the quartette: 4'Nearer Mv God to Thee" Second Song ' Funeral Anthem" Third Song "Sleep well Beloved." Fourth Son*?: "Grave on the Green Hill Side." The ceremonies were impressively performed by the Hons Camp, W. J. Hughes acting as M. C ; E. K. Skipper, C. C.; D. D. Harrelson. Poet; P. E Lee, Escort; B. P. Harrelson, A L; R M Hardee, Banker; W F Rowell, Sentry and W P Tyler, Watchman. The memorial address was delivered by J R Drake, of Darlington. The monument is built of white narble, the base being four logs and ;he npper part representing a stump [t has the W O VN emblem carved )n it, weighs about 2U00 pounds and las the following epitaph: 'Among the dead our Sovereign sleeps, Our sorrows clustering round his head, Be comforted ye loved who weep, He lives with God, he is not dead" A picture of the monument and the monetise crowd of two thousand people was taken which will appear n the visitor where all sovereigns nay see it. The Sunday Schooi Convention of Mai ion District convened at this place last Thursday and continued in session for several days. The work of the convention wa9 harmonious from beginning to end and was accomplished with an eye single to the glory of God and the upbuilding of his kingdom on earth.
