Mr. Willott took for his themo"The Passing of Roosevelt," and in a speech of groat length dealt with numerous of the President's acts since lie came into olllce ami scathingly denounced them. So severe was that attack of Mr. Willott that after several efforts Republican members were aide to force him to take his seat on a call to order before he had finished his speech. After declaring that in the face of all sorts of condtions Americans were possessed of a universal sense of humor, Mr. Willctt said that to such people "it must be confessed, a Chief Magistrate who has himself no sense of humor, moving like a horse-tedder over the havheld of American activities; stirring up every drying blade of once green grass, to lot it fall dryer than before, quarreling one day with the practical politicians, then with the part-yourhair-in-t lie-middle reformers, then Willi llio Socialists, then with the great industrial corporations; wrestling in agony of spirit with Noah Webster and our glorious English tongue; taking a fall out of naturefakirs, exhorting our women to avoid race suicide, cannot he an unmixed nuisance. Woodbury, who had engaged for some years in the business of removing facial deformities and otherwise improving the personal appearance, committed suicide in the Sea Cliff Inn at Coney Island today, by shooting himself in the head and abdomen. It is believed that Mr. Woodbury bad been much worried by suits brought against him by several persons. who alleged that his treatment had I (ecu harmful. At the oflicos of the "Facial Cultivating Company," it, was said Woodbury was in good health .and spirits when he last visited the place on last Sunday. Woodbury had been separated from his wife for some time, and since the separation he had lived at the Sea Cliff, which he owned. lie is believed at one time to have been worth $1,000,000. New York, Jan. 20.?After arranging with an undertaker to have his body cremated, paying for tin urn in which to place his ashes, Thomas I Ditchings, said to he a Marlon real estate dealer, walked into the West Twentieth street police station yesterday and asked to talk with some one who was a Mason, that he might it'll him his t roubles. lie was referred to the stationhouse at Sixtli avenue and West. Twenty-third street, where he was told he would find a number of Masons. Mulchings started, but paused just outside the door, drew a revolver and shot himself through the head, dying instantly. Mulchings had been in a particularly jovial mood, while talking with the undertaker, and neither the latter nor the policemen al the Twentieth street station had any suspicion as to his sanity or intent ions. First, never , against, will the negro race be allowed to politically dominate and control a sovereign State of this Union. , To do so would be to enthrone ignorance and give it dominion over intelligence, and to bring back the rapid and utter reckless debauchery of the Reconstruction era. Second, the social barrier, which separates the races will iiovr be allowed to ho lowered. To do so would destroy the purity and integrity of ?ho white race and shock the sensibilities and outrage the moral sense of the Caucasion race the world over. "For forty years, in patience and kindness the people of the South have wrestled with this problem,' he said in conclusion. "It is still unsolved. What the end will be, only dod in 11 is infinite wisdom can see. Shall it tie that the black race will be deported? If feasible, it would remove the last remaining barrier to complete the unity of the American people. Shall it be a race war, bloody, tierce, exterminating?a war for tin* survival of the ti'test ?dod forbid. Shall it be amalgamation, and the unspeakable horror of a corrupted and inferior race? To allow it would he to destroy that civilization which is tit once our strength and pride. Shall it he that t he two races will dwell together, and yi;t apart, in peace and harmony.
