after spending a few weeks with relatives
and friends in Horrv county,
returned to Florida a few days ago,

F. W Zecker, of llomcwood, last
Friday, brought into the city, the
first quart of ripe strawberries of
the season. Mr. T. J. Hell of the
Hank of Horry, had the berries wher
they were seen oy the Herald
man.
Even "Old Prob" had respect for
women's vanity. He held back the
clouds and the rain and the cold until
Sunday night in order to give tl e
fair sex an oppotunity in which to
display their new spring drosses and
hats.
The lumber is ready and on the
ground for tne construction of
another cistern for the tire department
near the old court house.
When this one is completed there
will bo two largo supplies of water
for use in ease of fire.
Contractor Blalock who is in
charge of the foice of hands working
on the new court house has had considerable
trouble lately on account of
blind-tiger whiskey among his hands
On several occ isions the hands were
so loaded with "booze" that the

them to sober up.
The Alaska Packers Assoe'atlon
are about, to iutroduco the Arg) Red
Salmon in this market. They are
the largest Salmon canners in the
worl 1, employing on army of 7,500
men, with a fleot of over sixty vessels,
and the Argo is the choicest
Red Salmon packed. It is caughu
in the icy waters of Bering Sea.
The llesli is very fiim; of a beautiful
red color and delicious flavor.
We have heard it rumored that
there will not be any excursions to
Mvrile Beach this year. The excuse
given is that all cars that can be
possibly spared from regular sched|
ules, will be needed in running excursions
to the Jamestown Exposition.
This minor cannot at this
j time be verified but wo givo it to the
Herald readers for what it is worth,
trusting that there is no foundation
in it.

Tho people in this community are
suffering with colds.
We were glad to sec tho rain come
and I imagine that the good women
were more than glad to sec it as
they are more concerned about their
gardens than the men are.
Mr W EGraham, of this community,
who moved among us last winter,

on his farm. With good manage

He is a good neighbor and is

Mr Andrew J Cox has just linished
teaching three schools at Mt.
Tabor. From reports it seems that
Mr Cox has given pei feet satisfaction
to the people whore ho has
taught

"A battle of butterflies," said the
Japanese viscount firmly.

On the evening of Aug. 20 two opposing
armies of the butterflies fought an
aerial battle between Nojitnn and Kavnsakl
Mura. The tight continued till
sunset, when the smaller army turned
and retreated, the viators pursuing It
till all wore lost In the rosy sunset
haze. The ground beneath the combat
was thickly strewn with wounded and
dead warriors. The battle drew a thoui
sand people. It occurred aliout thirty
feet up in the air. The spectators were
amazed and horror stricken to see
these gentle blue butterflies grappling
and struggling furiously and silently
In a blue blizzard above their heads."

Moths and Butterflies.
Some lnotlis look very much like butter
tiles, but there are two ways In

There are lot* of people suffering
from coughs and coids around here.
The farmers are busy preparing
for another crop. We wish our
strawberry growers great success

We had a fine meeting here last
week held by Dr L L. Nash, one of
ttie finest preachers we have. Clarendon
has organized a church and
Sunday school. We have only lif-,
teen members but hope to have more
tn the future. May the Lord help
us to be successful in our undertakings
and get our new church. licv
Sawyer will be the preacher for our
town and there will be preaching
and Sunday school on tin* fourth J
Sunday in April at 4 o'clock at the
new school house.
