The City had been laid olT into
convenient wards so arranged as to
meet the wishes of the voter in his
ward. We cannot at this writing
give the boundaries of the dillerent
Wards, not having the dat i at hand ;
just now , but as soon as we c an

judicious choice of men to hold
the reins of government for the next
t wo years. In the first place the se
lection for Mayor, Honor Jeremiah
Smith, is too well known to need

For the past twenty live or thirty
years he has been prominently be
fore the people of this his native
county, and as everybody knows he
is a man of uwcomproming integrity,
always open to ad-1
vice concerning those things tending
to the up building of his town,
county and State; but having once
made up his mind, being sure he is
right, his decision is as unalterable
as the laws of the Moades and Persians-.
The council is made up of
progressive young business men who
have been sussessful in tlie management
of thpir individual alTairs
it naturally follows that they will %
equally successful in the discharge of
their public duties. On the whole
Conway indeed has a g >od cau*c to
congr.iiulate it-clf on hiving made
such a wisi eho'ce ii the selection
of its municipal olliccrs, and an

On the 20th of August, liMitl, the
death angel visited the home of Mr.
oul Mrs II. I. Martin and carried

'A i .'ust his remains were laid away
? ? ivst in the Rehobeth cemetery,

three daughters and other relatives
and many friends to mourn his loss,

his e'ernul g-iirt. He was converted
and afterwards connected himself,
with the Methodist church the day
he v. as married. Since that time he
ha- lived a consistent member of the
ehur< h of his choice. There is no
doubt but what lie is at rest he
while lying on his bed in his last
hours would often cad his loved ones
by name and told them he had only
one in?re stop to make?only to step
across t he brink and he had his common
good unto death, and on the
day before he died, while Brother
Cyrus Daw,soy and others were engaged
in singing and praying with
him, he being weak in body but
strong in spirit, v ould clasp Ids
hands and shout praises to him that
feittcth upon the. throne and liveth
forever and forever. Dear one, we
j hate to bo without .you, although wo
hope to moot you in heaven.

Our table is not ollicial, but the figures have been gathered over the

telephone system and by private messengers from every section of the
county, and from these figures we learn that D, A. Spivcy is elected over j
Cook, with a majority of votes 224. W. K. Bolt is elected over A. P. .
Johnson with a majority of 402 votes. By the figures, John Holt is elect- 1

ed by a small majority, l)ut the vote in this case is so close that the olli- I

The C niwav Telephone Company rendered very ellicient service, not <

only to Herald but to its readers in many sections of the county to whom
[ the Herald phoned the result and figures as they came in. The service
was kept up the greator part of the night and there was nothing but

The jury found them guilty and

six months in jail.
