Mullins, .1 Uno 21.--- At no time in
the history of the enterprising eity
of Mullins. the little Danville of
South Carolina, has there been manifested
as much interest in the election
of her mayor as was today.
There were only two aspirants for
the olliee: .las. T. Seholield, the
present mayor, and John Cooper, a
youno man, who has not yet reached

the business interests of Mullins
being vice president and general
manager of the Palmetto (Jrocery
Company, director in the Merchants
and Planters bank, president
of the Mullins Supply company, all
of which comprise the largest insti
tutionsof the city. Ilothcandidates
having strong and arduous support
ers made the election one of the hottost
and closest ever held.
After several hours of hard work
on the part of the friends of both the
election was closed, ballots counted
and resulted in the election of John
Purley Cooper as mayor of Mullins
for the next two years and J. M.
Hethea, C.O Dixon, If. M. Folder.
J. R. Price, F. C. Rogers and S. J.
Smith as aldermen.
The mayor-elect, Mr. Cooper is
full of energy and enterprise and
Mullins people look toward to an era
of prosperity, wnich will make Mullins
the garden spot of eastern On roll

1 see where all the readers are
asking for letters from K'orida, now
why not hear from old Georgia too?
Crops are looking line in our
country, especially cotton and corn.
Old Bro. Green is trying to take
everything since we have had such
ncavy rains.
Mrs. Ce wis lias jusl returned from
Florida, where she has been visiting
her mother.
Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Kd wards of
Oeilla, (la., have moved out to the
camps, where Mr. Kd wards has accepted
the position of superintending
the skidder crew.
Now, if wo "Georgia Crackers"
are welcome, we are going to visit
Conway and Kxile in September or
October. Now, some one tell me
we will be welcome, wont you
please?
If this fails to reach the waste
basket 1 will come again.

DIED.
Mrs. Amelia Ann Tyler died at
her home near Bayboro on .lane
10th, 1900. She had been ii. bad
health for nearly three years, but
just before her death she seeinec to
be better; she ate dinner and supper
that day and seemed to be mi
good spirits. She went to bed j
her usual time, when about half an
hour till ten o'clock she calleil her
husband, Klish Tyler, telling him
that she wanted water. She drank
the water and died in about fifteen
minutes. Her last words were:
"Thank God 1 am prepared to go."
She was nearly 71 years old, and
had been married 40 years. She |

carried away their little daughter,

were torn and crushed when we had
to <?ivc her up, but the Lord I.new
best. We know dear little Uubic is
in heaven sitting around Cod's
white throne. Oh how heart rendering
it is to stand by the bed side
of those whom we love so well, and
see the loving ties of nature severed
by the icy hands of death. Hut the
Lord knew best and had called her
to live with Him.
All that a </ood physician ami loving
and willing hands could do, could
not stay the hand of death. It
seems that it is always tin1, sweetest
(lower that is plucked lirst. The
Master only took this little hud to
blonsoiu in heaven. Yes, we are
satisfied little Uubic is through with
the trials and disappointments of
this sinful world and is no.v grouped
with the angels 011 the rij^ht hand
of Cod. Wo cannot wish you back
little Uubic, but oh how sad to he.
separated for life with only your
dear ima^e iushrined in our hearts
to remind us of your animated presence.
Little Uubic was a charm to their
home, hut our Heavenly Father saw
(it to take her with Him to erect
us when we come. Her remains
were laid to rest at Hoplar church

by the Rev. J. C. Davis of
Conway.
Little Uubic leaves a mother and
father, a host of friends and relatives
to mourn their loss, but while
we mourn we feel that it is her
eternal f^ain, Uubic Cod has called
\ 011 away to that happy land above.
It seems that once our happy home
is now the saddest place on earth
without those precious smiles of
I yours, but soon wo will ?o> iiml moot
you whore parting will bo no more.
Truly we can say:
A loving one from earth is gone,
A voice wc loved is stilled,
A place made vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.
May wo all find a home in heaven
when our earthly task is done.

and mother. Sister Matlie had been
sick for about la months. All was
done for he)1 that doctors and kind
and loving friends could do, but God
who never makes a mistake knew
best and called her to dwell with
Him in that beautiful city where
the sun never sets and the Mowers
ever bloom.
In early life she connected herself
with IMeasunt Meadow ^Haptist
church. The community has lost a
good neighbor and friend, the husband
a faithful companion and the
little girl a good mother. She was
known to the writer about seven
wars and lie feels confident that our
lohs is her cnornal gain. She was
(piiotly laid to rest in the cemetery
at Kohobeth church.
She leaves a husband and one
child, a mother, two brothers, one
sister and a host of friends to mourn
their loss. Ilut we do riot mourn as
those who have no hope for we feel
1 well assured that we will meet her
again in heaven. A Friend.

I concluded that 1 would state for
their benefit and my blissful pleasure,
that I am now engaged in a
glorious meeting at one of our
churches at Nebo. The Holy Power
has come down in its convicting
and converting power and has made
many happy souls.
We expect to continue our meeting
ten days or two weeks longer.
Hoping all my friends will pray
