The Pee I)ee Union was hold at Red Oak church on the 28th and 2iUh though the weather was very unfavorable. 1 regret very much to have to say that only about half of the churches in the union wore pros ent. Rut I am glad to say that nil of the good brethern who attended seemed to enjoy the good spirit. If* every church member who claims to be a follower of Christ, would oniy use those golden opportunities which v surround us. What a great change would soon prevail in this county, where it is so very much needed, and in adjoining ones too? I notice that a good many churches appoint their viriu-wiin iio uun'^ai/co iw i u|)i usriiu them in the unions. 1 think that euch and every church should appoint some of the lay members as delegates to represent their body in the un on. And 1 think that each and every deacon of the sister churches should attend every union without, having to be appointed as a delegate, and then again I notice that our clergymen seemed to be somewhat careless in attending the union. I think that each and every minister should attend as often as possible. G. W. Athens. The cotton crop in this section is about gathered. A party of the young folks of this place consisting of L. M. White, 13. J, Holt, Cleveland Mishoe, Fornie and John White, Misses Dora White and Daisy Mishoe took a trip to the ocean last week. They report a good time. When we got to the river at Wortham none of us knew anything about the crossing, and drove into a very dangerous hole. From here we had no other mishaps; wo had very line luck. The ocean of course was a sight to some of us. Wo took a stroll on the strand the day wo reached there, and spent the afternoon looking at the curiosities which were to be seen along the strand. At night we took another stroll which was enjoyed by all looking at the great breakers bursting by the moon light. Hut tho greatest joke is some of the boys, were looking for the bridge the candidate was to build accross the ocean. The Herald is welcome here every Friday. Tab. Bisco. The weather seems to keep cloudy and rainy. The farmers are busy harvesting corn, potatoes and cotton. Messrs. J. T. Mincey and George Harrelaon of Finklea, were here on Sunday. Messrs Dock Britt and Tom Cox of Sanford passed here recently enroute for the cattle ranch. Mr. Dexter Gerrald and Gasque ^ ugiis ?>f Sanford, passed here on la ->1 Sunday. Miss Delia Mincey of Finklea, is spending some time with relatives in this section. Mr. Jolm Todd has returned home again. Mr, B. D Hardee has recenely accepted a position with Mr. Benj Boyd at Pine Level. The ineasle* are raging here y*t, there are but few cases. The Bisco Brick Works has recently shut down for a few days. Mr. Supervisor I don't think it the proper way to do business to let those who work the road off with one third of the time required, aud not cut those down who pay out from the service on the road. The Sunday School at Lakeswamp is progressing finely and would be a grand success if all who are in reach would get interested enough to attend . The Rev. Ohas. P. Hullock of Clarendon, N. C., came to lill his last appointment at Lakeswamp last Saturday, and there seemed to be a misunderstanding in some way and there was no preaching. Messrs K P. McQueen and John Tyler were here one night last week on business. Agents and peddlers are not very few in number now, as they are seen 0:1 every hand almost any way one may turn. There is an agent sticking some artiele at him trying to sell him thw best yet. We hope he will be successful in geting the route through here as we are so far from a postoffico, The near est one is more than four miles, and we should strive to have our mail brought nearer. More of the fleecy stuff went on tlu* market than during any one week in many years. When the price went to ten cents it seems tlu* farmers, or a good many of them, were willing to sell. I heard one large farmer say ten cents was enough for cotton. A good many people from Oakton and hereabouts attended the State Fair.
