OUR COF l.atoana. Everybody welcomed the rain last week. Messrs. 11 C. Lunday and Cicero Roberts were calling in our section last Sunday afternoon. \V. A. Hughes and son and S M. Untie made a business trip to Mvj! lins last week. Misses Carrie and Eflie Johnson visited friends near Jorilanville recently . Messrs J. E, and S. A. Hughes attended a fish dinner at the river last Saturday and report plenty of fish Mr. J. A. Johnson and wife spent last Saturday and Sunday with relatives at Forney, The Rev. Mr. Davis was here last week. miss Ann Smith or the Mt. Ilermon section, visited her cousins, the Misses Hughes of this place a few days ago. Mr. L. L. Johnson and family of Forney, spent part of last week with Mr. A. C. Johnson here. .jMr. J. M. Richardson was in our section last Sunday. We enjoy the letters from the different correspondents to the llerald. Lot us all help to make the paper interesting. Cor. Hickory Cirovc. The farmers are having rainy weather tor harvesting. We are glad to know that the price of cotton is advancing ouce more, Mr. W. E. Hardee is erecting a new dwelling which will bo a very neat structure when completed. Others will tie started in the near future. A series of meetings was started at Hickory Grove church last Monday night by the Rev. Mr. Hritt of North Carolina, lie is a faithful worker and highly esteemed in this community. On last Thursday evening, the charming daughter of Mr. J. W. T. j Patrick] Miss Jennie, was joined in wedlock to Mr. Lee Gale, C. E. Parker, Notary Public, performing the ceremony. The contracting parties were both of Conway. The liev. J. C. Davis tilled his appointment at Durants last Sunday nnd will continue for a few days. Finder. INixon villc. We are having very disagreeable weather at this time with a good deal of rain. The farmers were nearly all busy digging potatoes last week and j report a fair yield. Some cotton ! yet to pick. The health of the neighborhood is very good, no serious sickness reported. The engine of the Gardner & Lacy Co., was derailed on last Friday morning but they have succeeded in getting it back on the track again. We are informed that John Livingston (col) was shot by another colored man and painfully wounded in the leg on Sunday before last at or near the Chesterfield colored j church near Warn pee. We have not been able to learn the particulars of the affray. Such conduct should be reported to some magistrate and the law vigorously enforced. Such occurrences arc getting to bo very common. The la*v is open to all and if such disturbances at the churches were severely punished they would soon become less frequent No doubt whiskey was the cause. We would be glad to have our Supervisor to come this way and take a peep at the condition of the roads aud bridges. Well, Mr. Editor, we have voted out the dispensary, now lets vote in the new court house and have something that will bean honor to our little Independent Republic, what say you? Cor. Ilisco. The raccoons in this section have become a pest. They have almost consumed some corn crops. Mrs. George A. In man filled his place as teacher in our Sunday School last Sunday with honor to himself and his class Uev. J. W Todd filled his last appointment at this place on 'lie fourth Sunday and day before in October. Brother Todd has pastor edour church for four years, and during his pastoral work, our church has made rapid progress. The male membership has perhaps doubled and she has built a eoinfnrtuble house of worship. We pray God's richest blessings on him wherever his lot shall be cast. Brother II. B. Miss Fannie I'itman who is touch ino at Maple spent last Sunday with parents here. Miss Cornelia J curette spent last week with friends and relatives at Mullins. Cotton picking is almost a tiling of the past, and our fanners arc selling right along since the price has been raised to ten cants A. W. Hecks of this section lias the best potato oroo we have. seen. I Willie Jonet of Mullins has been visiting relatives at Justice recently. Mr. and Mrs. K. H. Nichols of this section are visiting relatives and friends at Cayettevillc and other places. W. II. Rabou of Savannah liluli visited his father, uncle Meorge some days ago. VVc are glad to learn that Mrs. I. B. Habon of Cool Spring, and Mrs. Willie Davis of Bibannu, who have been suffering for some time with rheumatism are greatly iin proving. K. L. Mishoe, who has been em ployed in the treasurer's office for some time is at home again.
