All the available timber in the county is being bought up at a rapid rate and time is not far in the future when there will be a timber famine. It is likely that most of the farmers will sell their cotton this year as fast as they can get it out of the fields and get it ginned. Tho price, you know may go down all at once as it did last year. The insect that destroyed the cotton in some parts of the County this year was not the ball wcavil but something just as bad or worse. In most instances they totally destroyed the crop where they went. Mosquitoes have beeu more numerous in Conway this year than N formerly and it is the business of the authorities to see to it that this condition is corrected before another year. The active campaign against the yellow fever in New Orleans and other places has about won. Every city and town should always be kept in the best sanitary condition so that troubles of this kind could never get a foothold. The Dispensary election on the question of Dispensary" or "No Dispensary" in the various counties is not conclusive because it will still be a question that the Legislature must decide at its coming session or some other. We are told that the town councial has appointed the new member of the board of health in the person of Dr. H II. Burroughs to take the place of S. T. Sessions, whose time of , office has expired. The board will now elect a health officer and have him at command so at all times the orders of the board can be executed. Owing to the necessary expense than the election of a health officer would entail, the town has heretofore left it off. But the time has arriv ed in the history and growth of Conway, when it will not do to stand on the question of a small salary in a matter of so much importance. We have the largest stock < -EE Ai If things hold out from now on H the present year will be marked | down as one of unusual prosperity. : Tobacco farmers got a living price for their tobacco and the raisers of cotton are now getting living pric.es for their cotton. There is a fear that the price of cot ton may drop this winter as it did last, but as there is a short crop and great destruction from several causes in some sections of the country, it is not likely that the price will go much below what it is now. There is another reason why the price is likely to stay up and that is the determination of the farmers in many parts to hold it fur the agreed price. An Incjuiry. Mr. Editor:?Some time since the citizens of Conway held an election and authorized the town Council to issue bonds for internal improvement. This we all remember but what we wish to know is why have not the bonds been issued and the committee on Internal improvements allowed to get to work? We have beon informed and have a right to believe, that, it is, because tho said board proposos to spend $17000 for drainage in a practically self drained town, and this against the judgment of a majority of the tax payers, besides in a vray not considered pratical by the best authority the com nittee has been able to procure. When the people elected this board on internal improvements they did not think that the gentlomon would do any thing detrimental to the best intorest of the town, knowing ly, but as we have a small town with only small means, it really appears, that we have elected men, with big , ideas and unless those ideas can be modified, it will be decidedly bettor for the Town to wag along in the same old rut. We understand that the old Council refused to issue the bonds ' because they did not think it expedient to put so much mouey in tho ground of this town and have had it made plain, that the present council would refuse ou tho same grounds.
