I OUR COF Candidate's l.ast Request. Editor Herald: ? Please allow me space in the columns of your valua- s ble paper for a few words of com 1 menlon the dispensary problem for the last time before the election. 1 i feel like there lias been some able < writing on this question, but that ' does not keep me from trying, and 1 < am impressed to try to improve my ( talent instead of burying it 1 The first of my views, 1 think the Editor deserves credit and honor for | the limits he has given to the public | to discuss this matter through the paper. 1 1 wish no long controversies with I anyone. 1 have not the talent to I make long speeches nor to sho.v up figures like some, but 1 have had some experience in sceinir tlu> evil * o " " produced from whiskey, and any man who lias soon and experienced < what I have and t hen votes for whisicy, must certainly be an insane ] man to a certain extent. Those that < are going around tell wig lies and cheering for the dispensary and 1 those who arc standing on a balance, | they will try to null them over on ] the dispensary side and put a cap over the face of those who are ignorant. This class is not welcome in i my house nor at my table for they are agents of the Devil. Those who are going to vote for it are not far behind, and those who say they don't care which way it goes and don't vote either, are in danger of God, for they are neither warm nor cold, but are lukewarm. No man can serve two masters. Some might say that God has got nothing to do with the dispensary, lie has not, but Ho has something to do with us. Some say the dispensary funds help our free schools, but I say that the dispensary is a school it self and it has many students on roll and the Devil is the teacher, and he teaches his children the way to Hell's dark door, and it is is our duty to try to remove this school from our county. Let's carry everything to God in prayer and then vote as we pray. If there is a man that prays in public and votes for the J > he votes against his prayers. Now, my last request is that every voter that is blessed to live until next Tuesday, go to the polls and vote, but before starting off in the forest or to some secret place, go and ask God if you are going to vote right. Ask for wisdom and how to vote, and I especially ask those that are aiming to vote for it to do this, and 1 think if they will do this . they will then arise, go and vote against it. Be careful if you vote for the curse to stay with you, for you may vote your soul to Hell. J. II. Brinson. Ml. Tabor S- S. Institute. The Mt. Tabor Sunday School Institute will hold its annual session with the Baptist church at Boris on Saturday, October 7th. Congressman J. E, Ellerbo, of Marion, will be the orator of the day at 12 o'clock. Everybody invited to hear him. Bring well-filled baskets. Mr. Editor, we will carry the "pully bone" for you. The marshal will have good order. Supt. Adrian. I think that the majority of the people of this community will vote down the diepensary. 1 think that every man who claims to be a Christian and then votes for the dispensary ought to read his bible. 1 do not want my children educated 0.1 the poor drunkard's wives and childrcns labor. 1 want them educated, but I want them to get it houestly. 1 hope on the day of the election, that all will turn out and vote it out. Our pastor, the Rev. Mr. Davis conducted La revival meeting last week at Poplar church. He does not fail in giving good advice to all that is not in the ark of safety. Our school is being taught., and is progressing well under the careful management of Miss Khoda McDonnell. She is a charming young lady of Loris. She has gained the love of most of her pupils. Miss Louis Tompkins is spending some time with relatives and friends in the Green Sea section. K. T. Good advice to women. If you want a beautiful complexion, clear skin, bright eyes, red lips, good health, take Hollister's Rocky Mountain Tea. There is nothing like it. cents Tea or Tablets at Norton Drug Co Joppa I will write again to your paper as I have not written in some time. There was a protracted meeting at Antloch church last week and live united to the church. Mr. Davis Grainger and Miss Nolie Grainger attended religious ser vices at Uehoboth last Sunday. Mr. Wheeler Vaught and Homer , Fowler were visitors at Mr. Grain- , ger's on lust Sunday p. m. Neely Rarnhill visited at Mr. ( Graham's last Sunday accompanied , by his brother in law. , The community has pretty good health at present. ] Slocum. j 8HUBV Vwmmnto v. . . j I and draw conclusions which are facta; and suocess is to put thesi into practical use. Editor Herald:?Please allow me space for u few words in regard to the dispensary Horry county has the greatest reasons for keeping the dispensary >f any county in the State. We being poor in property and lichin uhik'ren the State gives e s an uqual amount or nearly so, of the profits of our dispensaries We have none of the scandals reported elsewhere. There is more prohibition in the dispensary law when properly enforced, than there is in prohibition, therefore we should keep the dispensary and help to enforce the law. The spirit of the law is right, but it has been abused. Now, if we put the right men in charge and tell them to enforce the law or get out, we will reap the benefits of the profits and also the benefits of the prohibition that is in the law if it is unforced. Whiskey is a good thing in it< place, but to keep it there is the great need of the hour. Some peo pie will have it and why not control the sale of it and get a profit. Once upon a time Ch.ist was at a feast and the wine gave out. What did lie do? lb; made more. The people will make more whis key. This is why prohibit ion don t prohibit.. I am in favor of prohibi lion, but 1 have learned that it is impractical. Therefore as 1 see it, the (lisp: nsarv law enforc*i?d suwl purified is tlx* best solution of the liquor traffic. Podge. INixou ville. Health good at present. Fine weather for picking cotton. The fanners are receiving satisfactory prices for their cotton. Cotton is going in pretty rapidly to the gin at (' rahain ville. The Kev. Allan MeFarland commenced a week's meeting at Salem on Monday. The spirit of God was plainly manifested on that occasion from all appearances. We predict a good week's meeting. Services will be held each day at 10 o'clock a. m. and 7 o'clock p. in. Come out every body that can and lend a helping hand and try to do something for the Master's cause. Mr. MeKarland is an able preacher and 1 know you ?,;n ? in>i nyrei "iiiiiij OUL lO llOUl' him. Miss Eannie Dusenbury is spending tliis week with her sister, Mrs. J. P. Jolinson at Graham ville. Mr. Editor, we see nothing lately about the bridge across the Waccamaw 1 think we are justly entitled to it and the county has as much right to build that bridge as it has to build one across the big swamp on the main road. The people south of the Waccainaw l.ave been paying feriage long enough and we think it high time for some relief. vVe are waiting and watching for the time to come and we hope it will not be long. Cor. Socastcc. Health generally good with a few exceptions. Miss Hannah Sarvis returned to her home last week, after spending some time with relatives in Georgetown. Miss Estelle Thompson of Eulonia, is visiting her friend Miss ' Cora Prince. Miss Sadie Dusenbury of Port Harrelson, spent a short while in our community last week, the guest of Mrs. S. D. Dusenbury. Mr. Gordon Vereen of Thompson, visited friends here on last Sunday. Miss Annie Dunn of Georgetown, is visiting Misses Hannah and Lucy Sarvis, Mrs. IJ. C. Cook returned home last week from North r.fiv/?!5nn she has been spending some time with friends and relatives. "Scribo." llaskcll. Health is very good at present. Mr. John Marlow and his brother visited friends and rel.itives?.in this section lart Saturday night and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Allen of Myrtle Beach visited friends and relatives in this section last Sunday. Mr. W. J Brown and his charming daughter, Miss Selia, went to Conway one day last week on business. No wedding bells to report this time but think there will be some soon. Mr. Editor, we hope that evil, whiskey, will be voted out. There is many a poor mother grieved with trouble about her son drinking, and when it comes to little boys ten and twelve years of age getting drunk, 1 think it is a shame and a great curse on the land.
