An elevator has been constructed in the back end connecting with a large floor space upstairs in the older building measuring do x 80 feet and this is used in connection with thfl furniture store making room to hold an immense stock . ^ At. this store can be found all class- t es and kinds of furniture from the cheapcsfpoplar bureau or bedstead j up to the linest quartered oak and other line cabinet woods, and almost | any thing that acustomer would want in the lino of house furnishings, (foods are now in stock there which only a few years ago could not be ( found in Conway ? the merchants found no sale for them and hence could not carry them as dead stock on their shelves. Just a short time 1 before a reporter for the Hkuai.d 1 called at this new store, a fine trunk had been sold to a customer at $12 50, * Five or six years ago, such an arti- u cle not carried ir. MVKTI.r: BEACH. iood Things Said of it. But a Church Needed. For a few weeks past I have had a nost pleasant stay at Myrtle Beach, dy object in going was not to seek or pleasure but health. Both are to )e found there. The delightful breeze l 11 cl sea-bathing makes one forget to >e tired. It was my lirst experience on the :oast, therefore 1 cannot compare his with other places; but I cannot ,hink bow nature could have done nore towards making Myrtle Beach i desirable home for the summer. Man too has done much towards leuutifviui/ the nlaoe. Added to t he - ?/ o - i " " >oauty of the ocean, the banks of now-white sand, the shell covered >each, the soft moonlight and sparking sunlight, is a beautiful hotel abiding fitted up with every eonvenence. Those who wish for gayety, coined to find it, judging from the ound of dancing which nightly aeouipanied the music of violin and >iano, in a large and substantial tavilion built for the purpose. There s also a pool room and bowling* ally whico seemed to be quite popuir. Besides the hotel, the whole place s dotted over with pretty little irhite cottages in any of which the isitor is apt to find kind, pleasant eople reaily to welcome one to their ammocks and easy chairs. Although so much has been doi.e n Myrtle Beach for the pleasure and omfort of the people, it seems that heir spiaitual welfare has so far teen overlooked. In vain did I look round for either church or school milding. We understand that this property 5 owned by Messrs. Burroughs & lollins. We heard these gentlemen poken of in the highest terms and ould not but wonder that such men ad so far over looked this most imortant of all matters. Wonder if hey will take our little hint as a relinder. It will be sad indeed for he young people of Myrtle Beach to ic taught the object lesson which is ofore them, that a dancing hall is lore of a necessity than a church or f.linnl hnnsn. 1 sim'nrnl v wiul-i no or the other of these buildings o be built immediately. In either f them a Sunday School could be tarted, which is the best stepping tone towards a church. A little organ or mclodion will be necessity. I could wish that this o put in charge of Mrs. Jim San ers. She will make an ideal organ it for a Sunday School, because she ives music and because all the young icople, (as well as the old) love her. 'here is nothing like good music and popular organist to attract and old a Sunday School together. We arc sure that the Rev. Mr. Me- | 'arland would be greatly encouraged i hould he be called on to organize uch a Sunday school and I am sure hat he will give it all the help in his tower. Should it bo my good fortune to isit Myrtle Reach again, I sinccrey hope that I may attend service at rlyrtie Beach church, take part in flyrtle Beach Sunday School and enr?y the music furnished by Mrs J J. landers, organist. FAREWELL SERVICES. SUM OF $74 25 OONATI l> TO I III KI TIIMNti I'ASTOII. I lie People of Conway Meet at Oie Presbyterian Cliurcli lo Say farewell to Itoloved Minister. There wore no services at the Baptist ami Methodist churches last Sunday evening, the services at these churches having been called in on account of farewell services in honor of the Uev. C. K. Robertson, the retirintr pastor of the I'resbv tcrian Ohurch. The Rev. Mr. Robert son came here about four years ago as pastor of the Kingston Presbyterian church and during that time he has won not only the undivided love of his own congregation but the love ai d respect of the other denominations in the town. When it was known that hi? had decided to leave and enter new fields of labor in Indian Territory, it struck the entire community with sadness and regret. The exorcises last Sunday evening show the good feeling and lasting regard that he has won . The Rev. J. L. Shinn, pastor of the Haptist church acted as Master of Ceremonies, and he very ably conducted the exercises, making a good speech and cxplaiding the object of the meeting. 'idie first speaker was the Rev. W. L. Wait of the Methodist church who spoke in behalf or the Methodists and Baptists of the town showing that they are uuited in the common cause. He was followed by Prof. Kennedy who spoke for the Presbyterian congregation, Col. C. P. Quattlcbaum for the Haptist church, Hon. Bobt. B. Scarborough and 11. H. Woodward Esqr., on the part of the Methodists, and then Dr J. S. Dusenbury presented to Mr. Robertson the sum of $7*1.25 which he told him had been contributed to him not by any particular denomination, but by all the denominations, and numbers of other people who belonged to no church at all. Mr. Robertson then made a short but very feeling response. After the services, before he left the further sum ol $50.75 was contributed, making a total of $125.00 which was eontriuted by his friends who had not already subscribed. 11 o left tho tirstof this week for his new field of labor followed by the kind wishes of hosts of friends, HOTTI.ING WORKS MOVED. Finds That increased Bnslnes Demands More Room. About the first of the present year, Mr. It. A. Baker began a small bottling works in a small room on Ith avenue. lie soon found that his business was rapidly increasing and that it would be necessary to find larger and more convenient quarters Bailing to secure a place near the river, he finally made arrangements with A W. Jenkins & Son to put up | a building 1(5x40 feet on the back of their lot near the livery stables. The new building is amply large to accommodate the greatly increased business of Mr. Baker and lie moved his machinery into it the first of this week. The bottling works is a fair example of the success new enterprises will find here. Telephones in Brunswick. It is stated that a telephone line from Soithport to Wilmington through Bock woods Bolly Shallotte townships is a possibility of the near future and that several Wilmington promoters are interested.
