The hearing of the case was begun at 11 o'clock in the morning, and it was after 8 o'clock in the evening when the jury returned their vcVdict. They found that the defendant must vacate the promises on June 1st and pa}- the sum of ?(?.-?"> as rent to ttie lane'lord. The defendant gave notice of appeal, but the parties finally compromised the ease and thus ended it. Woodmen rtect Officers. Causey and Johu Causey Jr., were crowned while in bathing at ;i timber landing near Cox's Ferry last Sunday morning, and their bod ies were not recovered from the river until late on Sunday after noon. S. A. Causey in company with several others and a number of small boys, went down to the landing on Sunday morning, and Mr. Causey took Jehu Causey Jr., and two 01 three other small boys into the river to learn them to swim. They had been playing around in the shallow water for some time, when Mr. Causey told young Jehu that if he would get on his back ho would swim the river with him. The boy got ou his baeU and Mr. Causey started as if he were going across the river, but when some little distance out, turned around and swam back with the bey towards the hill. As he came toward the shore, he seemed to strike bottom and stood up partly out of the water, the bov still on his back. After resting for a few moments, lie started as if to go on to tin' shore but went down and rose from the water no more. Young Jehu could not swim and soon sank for the last time. There were five men present but none of them could swim and there was no boat handy or both might have been saved. A crowd gatherod at the place as soon as the news | spread, and the bodies were recovered in thoafternoon not very far from where they wei.t down. I Coroner II. Diehard Hay and Julius Collins were present when the drowning occurred and all were examined as witnesses. Mr. Causey was a member of Live Oak Camp No. 121, Woodmen of the World, and nearly the entire camp turned out when they received the news of his sad and untimely death. Jehu Causey Jr., is the eldest son of Jclm Causey Sr., and his death is a sad blow to his parents. The funeral took place on Monday at the family burying ground near Conway and the bodies were at tendril to tiie grave by the Woodmen, and a host of relatives and friends The services at the grave were con-! ducted by the Kev.
