From some figures added up by the town marshall it appears that the population L will bo some where between eleven and twelve hundred. This is counting only within the corporate limits. -Col. Fuller of the United States army and Col Patrick of Columbia, representing the Adutant and Inspector General of the Stato, were here last Saturday for the purpose of inspecting the Horry Hussars. Conway should be proud of hef local military company which has vastly improved in appearance and etherwise during the past year or two. I.ost Twenty Dollars II. 0. McDaniels, the aged prisoner in the county jail, who is ^-serving a sentence on a charge of larceny of live stock, had two twenty dollar bills and lost one of them very misteriously while asleep in his cell one night last week. At his icquest the sheriff and jailer lined up all of the other prisoners and searched them one by ono in the hope of finding the old man's money, but if it had been takeir by any of them they had concealed it where it could not be found, and the close search of their clothing was fruit ess 01 results. Gliitrjrctl With Setting Fire, Four negroes, Nathan Rogers, Julius Rogers, Washington Rogers ai^l Alex Rogers, were brought here one day the latter part of last week and lodged in jail, having been bound over to the higher court by Magistrate J. I). West in Soeastee on a charge of setting fire to turpentine woods. Tho prosecutor in the ease is Alex Outlaw of Soeastee, and he claims that the negroes set (ire to his turpentine woods. The magistrate dicided to bind them over to court, and they had to be committed to jail in default of the required bond. Later they were released on bond. Mis Arm Mamrlcd. Lust Saturday morning, Mr. Wal ter Harris, a voung man employed in the lumber mill of the John If. Sizer Lumber Co., near Home wood got his arm caught in some of the machinery and frightfully mangled from the shoulder to tho elbqpr. Dr. II. H. Burroughs, who was passing on a tra'n, was called in, and later Dr. J. A. Norton was called. A saw struck the afrm near the shoulder and mangled it all the way down to the elbow, breaking the bone in savoral places. The doctors think it may be possible to save his arm. Silas Beverly, an aged citizen of Bucks township, died at his home week before last, at the ago of nearly one hundred years. His remains were outer red at the Beverly burying ground the following day in the presence of a large concourse ' of sorrowing friends and relatives.
