Mr. Editor, I would like to understand why it is that we can't get "The Herald" before Saturday Is it because they are not sent in time, or is it some careless post master's fault whilo in transit, I think it must be the latter as the other postollices near here nearly always receive theirs on Thursday. We would like to get them on time. Mr. Henry Harris is erecting a new dwelling near his old residence. M. T. II arris wont to Conway one day last week on business. Miss Callie Harris was a pleasant caller at Mr. J. 11 Hardee's one day last week. Mr. Norty Harris paid friends and relatives a visit last week at White Oak. M. M. and N. M. Hardee of White Oak made a business trip to Gurlcy last week. No small pox as yet has been reported here, but it is close by. E.G. Tyler is clearing land and improving his farm. Stevens of White Oak, was with us on Saturday night. L. M. Stevens made a business trip in the Adrian section on last week. Quite a crowd attended services at Oano Branch on Sunday. The Kev. "Thortf are no new cases of small pox at this writing and we hope we will have no moro cases to report. A few days of fine weather have banished tho water of the recent rains so our farmers can begin to hustle again. Some of our farmers have declined tho idea of planting any tobacco at all while there is a few that still hold on the staple. Hi I think that it is well enough to plant a little of both cetton and tobacco, but don't go wild over either one, for neither will not sustain life. The growing of vegetables ami oodcrops is the order of the day. This country is noted tor the growng of most any kind of crops, so ur as 1 have tried it. Times are lively with plenty of vork to do, and generally good wares are paid for any kind of labor. The natives of tins country own my where from ten to five hundred lead of cattlo. There is no doubt hat lots of the Horry people would ike to come to Florida if it were not or the idea of sickness. Most of the iconic who come to this place at the rime 1 came are now in far better lealth than they were when they irrived here. One of our Horry lalies came to this county at the same ,ime that I came. She was in very >ad health and had been for two /ears. When she had been here six nonths she was in the bloom of rood health. Does this speak well for the health >f Florida? An old colored woman lied hero last week at the ago of one lundrcd and forty-live (145) years. She leaves four children, three girls \nd one son. One of the girls being 120 year old. another 117 years and mother one is 105. The son is 05 years of age. Her baby child died in Tampa. Fla., last summer at the age j[ 85 years. C , lifty years before the Confederate war. Since that time they have lived in Florida. Another one of our Horry boys, Mr. 10. F. Hardee, on February 6th. 100f? was quietly married to Miss Lela Shaw. Mr. Hardee is a younjr man of good standing and a son of the late Mr. John Scot to Hardee. Miss Lela is the charming daughter of Mr. Bryant Shaw. J. W. Boyd is very ill with an abscess in his side which has broken an the out side. He is in a bad condition. The weather was very rainy last week. N. J. Hardee shut down his saw mill last week on account of snow and ra?n. S. C. Gore and W. G. StJrvis will plant tobacco this year. S. A. Gore says he will plant tobacco this year, and will also plant a crop of corn, peas and potatoes. Let us plant smaller cotton crops and get better prices for it, and if we have any, hold it till prices rise. The farmers are slow preparing for another crop. Wo hope all will flx up their fences this year and not bother their neighbor about his stock. J.J. Galaway is making a start at plowing. M C. Mr. Salmon Prince died near here the 15th inst , at the age of about seventy six years old, and was laid to rest in the Cartrott grave yard. W. L. Mishoe was here last Sunday. Geo. Muggins of Galivants Ferry, was seen here recently. L. W. Anderson, and Miss F.tlio ! McNabb was in the Poplar section last Sunday. Mrs. Henry Harper has been very ill for some time. F. G. P. Barker taught us a good school. It is reported that Mr. Barker is going to Florida, but we hope Mr. Cheatham will stay with us. Mess .las. Kay, June Hooks and Walker Gerrald of Zoan, visited friends here recently. Ilogs are dying of cholera. I think all old hog beds should be burned to keep other hogs from catching the disease. Mr. June Hooks returning home on the 12th (a very rainy day) it is supposed that Simpson Creek had a wet June in February. Podge. Shell. The small pox here is almost at an end.
