way last Thursday afternoon at a
few minutes past the hour of twolve
o'clock, after a long and lingering
illness with consumption. She had
been very low for several days and ?
the end was not unexpected, though '
at the same time regretted by her <
friends and relatives. Loving hands
ministered to her in her suffering .

The interment took place on the 1
following afternoon, at the Presby- 1
terian cemetery in the presence of (
a large concourse of friends and rel- (
atives, the services being conduct
ed by the Rev. U. K. Robertson as- 1
sisted by Rev. J. L. Shinn. She '
leaves a brother and sister who re
side here at the family homestead, a '

ton, and a brother, K G. Melson, ,
of Punxsutawnoy. Penn.
Mr and Mrs. Moulton arrived in ]
the city last Saturday to bo with '
the grief stricken family in their sud ;
bereavement.

Several Cars Smashed <
In a wreck on the C. C. & W Rail- 1
Road last week, nine timber cars 1
were smashed up, but no one was '
injured. The train was on its way '
back towards the beach and was '
about the seventh mile post from 1
Conway when t lie cars suddenly loft 1
the tract and were smashed. The f
cause of the accident is not definite- '
ly known but it is supposed to have '
resulted from a stick of wood having 1
fallen from the tender across the '
track. f

went to work and cleared up the
debts, turning the property all over
to his mother and sisters, and then
started in for himself.
lie married Miss Frances J. Sessions,
December 28, J871, and set

which received his namo. He carried
on a prosperous busiuess till he j
removed from there to MoClellanville,
where ho carried on a large =
busiuess till broken up by the storm
of 1885. He thoa threw all of his
energy and resources into rice planting
on the Santec, thinking all that n
was necessary to resuscitate the lan *
guishing industry was energy and j
perseverance, but he went down jj
like all of his predecessors before the j,
raging freshets. 1
Mr. Graham always took an active
part in politics from 187G, even C
naming one of his sons that was g
born that year after "our own
Hampton."
The High School building here was
erected largely through his ini
strumentality.
His daughter, Mrs. Roland Hughes
arrived from Savannah, Ga., in time
to see her father alivo, bearing tho i
tedious ride up from Mount Pleasant 1
with an infant, 4 weeks old. \

The character of Miss Vaught is
icyond reproach. She is well known
lore, havmg atteuded thr Burroughs
school. She has been teaching in
she public schools of the county and

vent. The news of her trial had
spread about and her friends crowd
d the court room when the trial
lo^un. The proof by the State so
ltterly failed to make out a cose
hat no arguments were made by
lie attorneys. When the jury reurncd
so quickly with a verdict that
'indicated her, there was much
sheering, and members of the jury
snd others pressed forward to shake

my suspicion from the beginning
hat she could even think of committ
ng such a crime as that charged.
