For some months past there has boon talk of extending the ConwaySeashore railroad, eastward to ]X)ints near the coast in North Carolina and westward to Marion, Sumter and other points. Negotiations to this end have been in progress for some time, the promoters were not willing to talk much, but at last, the H khali) is glad to be able to say that most of the preliminary plans have beeu perfected. Tho Conway-Seashore Railroad Company have made application for an amendment to their charter changing the name to Conway, Coast A Western Railroad Company, and authorizing and empowering them to lay out, construct and operato an extension of its lino, eastward from Conway to the State lino in tho direction of Southport, N. C., and westward from Conway, by the way of Cool Spring, to Sumter, S. C., with the privilege of extending its line northwardly from Cool Spring t o Marion, S. C. ft is not stated just how long it will be before the work will begin, but we take it that all plans have been matured, and that the scheme will be pushed with all the rapidity tnat is possible in such an undertaking. No greater move for the upbuilding of Conway and Horry county could bo made. It will give competition in trunsporation by rail. It will give Conway a much quicker means of communication with the outside world and the people can come and go much more quickly than they can now. It will onen to the trucking industry, two of tho finest sections of lands suit able for this purpose, that can be found any where in tins country. The carrying out. of these plans means more to Horry county thau any thing else that has been mentioned in the whole range of possibilities. Congressman Kobt. H. Scarborough has taken the lead in this movement, has formulated the plans and is carrying them out. It was for this that he says he found it impossible to stand for re-election to his seat in congress, because this enterprise deserved and required his entire attention. Resides being personally interested in this enterprise, he is general council for the company. The work he has done and will do, will not bo forgotten when in tho years to come Horry county reaps the rich harvest ??f blessings sure to follow. He sees in this work one of the great steps leading to the bright future so often predicted for our town and county, and he is willing to make a sacrifice, such as few would be willing to do. We understand that in the financing of tho enterprise, Mr K. A. Burroughs will take tho leaning part, and he says that all operations are to be pushed from the beginning. Ellerbo booked as speakers of the day to make addresses to the School, and shortly after dinner the church was packed to its upmost capacity to hear these distinguished orators. Mr. Scarborough spoke first and handled his subject, which was on educational and Sunday school work, ably. lie said knowledge was as essential to the mind as food is to the body, and emphasized the all importance of moral training in the tutoring of children. Mr. Scarborough is at home any where in Horry, and illustrated verv beautifully his kind feelings for his peoplo by quoting Ruth's reply to Naomi's entreaty. Mr. .1. E. Ellerbe of Marion then entertained the audience for three quarters of an hour in a very eloquent and impressive talk confined entirely to Sunday school lines. Hy his persisont efforts and active service ho has won for himself a place in the high ranks of Sunday school honors. His speech was good seed sown in fertile soil, the peoplo of Socastee are noted for morality and piety. Rev. A.
