Horry County should be wiilinj. to expend more in the maintenance aud building of roads and bridges Good roads are needed more thai anything else to aid in in^reasinj. the prosperity of the people The quantity of horses, mules buggies, fine furniture and the like that is sold these days as coinparec with the quantity sold ten years ago shows as much as anything else, tlx wonderful progress that our peoph ha\e made during this time. We hear of many farmers who arc going to try strawberries as one o their money crops for the coming year We are glad it is so and wc would like to hear of more. The success of the farmers of our count} is to be found in diversity of then crops. The Conway tobacco market has seen a successful seaso 1 and has n< cansc to grumble at the quantity ol tobacco handled, tint ??,. c I innnoc ? this lino is so great that efforts cannot bo put forth to make it greater in the future. Everything possible should bo done to bring a stil greater quantity of tobacco hen next year. Co no eh ni n < j the recent trouhU between the students of the Soutl Carolina College and 'lie cadets o Clemf.on College over a game of foo ball during fair week in Columbia there is some difference of opinioi as to where to place the blame. Fditoii Hkkai.d-?I seldom write j any thine for publication, but 1 am f impressed to writea few lines which , I hope will be of benefit, to many of ? your readers. The time will soon be here when our people will be t planning for another year and cv j eryone will desire success in all his undertakings. I In order to lie successful we must take Cod into all our plans, and engage in nothing that would not . meet with hisupproval and his blessing. I think it is time for the peo, pie to stop and consider from ! whence their blessings come, that 1 every good and perfect gift is from . the Lord, and without his blessing. [ we can do nothing. The time came this year, when all alike, saw and felt, that their dependence was upon Cod, and I verily believe that it was i through the prayers of Cod's peo pie that want was kept away from , our doors, riim^s have turned out better than we anticipated and now t, I ask the question: How are we i improving the blosinjj.s received? f Are we thankful? Have we formed tiio resolution to b? a better people? I k Have we opened our heart- and pur ses to the cause of G?d and the 1 poor, or have we jjrown fat, and . still #o on robbing God? It is stir 1 j prising that the more we are bless- (( ed here, the further we tfet away from God and duty. 1 1 am ulad to see that the I'resi dent of the United States has pro claimed a day of thanksgiving to God for the blessings received the . present year. If we as a people fail to rctqjond to this proclamation < f the chief executive of the nation, 1 we will commit a sin of omission for ^ which God will hold us responsible, ^ and if the preachers, leaders and ^ deacons, tail to hold a thanksgiv * intf service at their respective churches on the day set forth in the .. i i i . 'roclamation, unless providently ii tide red, we will o^lcct a known luty, and will show to the world hat we are not the i>cople that we hould be. I feel it a duty that we should all it tend these Thanksgiving services md spend the day in giving thanks or blessings received, and dividing he good things we have with the >00r and unfortunate, remembering luit while we give to the poor we five to Christ.
