thing for both the rural district and
the town. Our tobacco trade
here has increased our population

and above all has lent a stimulus to a

enumerate the many advantages it
has brought to both town and conn- ^

An Entirely Safe boast.

building: of a Tobacco Ware *
house.
Thi' tobacco interest gathering in
Ijoris on last Saturday* was quite a
success. It is stated that $1,500.75
was subscribed towards building a
warehouse and ?that considerably
more has neen promised.
The success which has been achieved
this year in growing it and in
curing it, t igether with tiie encouraging
prices which it brings in the
market is a very reasonable guarantee
oi a great increase in the acreage
next year.

a colored man ami a colored hoy,
both bearing the name of Hughes,
as we are informed, were drunk last
Saturday afternoon and caused considerable
annoyance tto those who
passed them near town. They
blocked the road with their vohicle
and several who happened to come
along, had to drive (.over the ditch
in order to pass.
The town marshall wnc notified
and he, with several to assist him,
soon had them safe in the county
jail.
Unreliable Rumor.
Otlieials of the Imperial Tobacco
company declare they have not heard
>f any proposition to combine with
the American Tobacco company. The
predictions to this end published in
the Westminster (lazette recently
come from an indefinite source and
are not reliable.
Matters at Homewood Colony.
The truckers out at Homewood
Colony are beginning to prepare
for another crop. Many of them are
now fertilizing for next season's
crop of strawberries. Mr ??
