SCHOOL CLOSES.
Some of the Exercises
The Hun'ou^ha Graded School has
wound up its work for the session of
1900 1901 and most, ot our I oa?*din??
students have left Conway for
their homes.
The closing oxereises bejjnn with
an entertainment on last Friday
evening at 8:15 o'clock. The program
was very 'interesting and
the* crowd that witnessed the
exercises had a full evening's enjoyment
First on the list was a play entitled,
"'Uncle .lack,' or "Testing
Hearts," and it is needless to say
that those selected for the east of
characters showed remarkable talent
for 'amateurs. Charles Montgomery,
a wealthy merchant, was represented
by Jackson Vercen whose
manner throughout the play fairly
represented the haughty, scheming
tlnaneier. Mrs. Montgomery, his
wife, was acted by Miss Hossie Rollinson.
the charming daughter of one

She acted her part well.
Jaelc Fenton, the eoinmedian of the
troupe, was personated by Charley
Watts, lie thoroughly understood
his part and kept the audience in a
roar of laughter during every actWidow
Met J ill's part was played by
Miss Fannie Dusenbury whose good
acting of the part pleased the entire
audience. Iaist but not least to be
mentioned was the part of Nancy
Mahoney, the Irish Maid, played by
Miss Pauline Ogilvio. iler repre
sentation of Irish ways would indeed
be hard to beat.
Then there was a song by little
Lilah Thompson which captured the
hearts of all.
A song, "South Cur'Una tickle
Cake walk" and a pantomime entitled.
"Way Down Upon DeSwanec
Riber" by several of the smaller
school girls wound up the exercises
or the evening.
MONDAY.
The graduating exercises began at
10 dO o'clock on Monday.
The graduating class consisted of
Misses Emilinc Coles, Mabel Norton
and .lanie Collins. The graduating
i essays of these three young ladies
would have done credit to older
heads. runt i?i> m: ?"

was the ti111* of Miss Coles' essay,
Miss Norton selected John (Iroeni
leaf Whittior as her subject, and
Miss Collins came last with "('lass
of 1001."
Several songs were , sung by the
school during the progress of the
exercises, and there was some very
good instrumental music bv Miss
Mitchell Collins and Mrs. M. \V. Col*
- lins.
Dr. E. Norton as chairman of the
' Hoard of Trustees presented the di
plomas in appropriate language
The morning's program ended
with a solo by Master Will Elkins,
after t lie gradual ing class and the
school gem rally had I ecu addressed
by Rev J. W. ' Elkins and Kev. C.
10. Robertson.
.MONDAY XIOIIT.
On Monday night a large crowd
assembled to hear the 'annual address
which was delivered by C. A.
I Woods Esq. of Marion. He was introduced
by Hon. R H. Scarborough.
His address was a literary treat
such as the people of Conway scl(
dom hear. For more than an hour
and a half he held tho audience spellbound
with those gems ol thought
which can only emanate from the
trained and cultured inind. Mr.
Woods is one of the foremost lawyers
of the State and a cultured
christian gentleman. His audience
expected something good from him
I and they got it.
Prof. R. Cosby Newton has given
general satisfaction and has made
many friends since lie came here to
, take charge of the school last Be
ccmuur.
[lis assistants, Misses Maud Mayo
and Ruth Burroughs, taught the In
tormediato ard primary grades.
; That they have done their duty is
. shown by the great progress the
' children have made in learning,
j Miss Emma Collins taught the music
('lass with her uuuil success.
