THURSDAY, MAY 16 1Q01
The time that is wasted and
thrown away by mankind, if turned
into work, would support one half
of the human race.
The dullest season of the year is
about over. Turpentine is beginning
to come in and it will not be
long before the tobacco season will
open.
It must be a mistaken idea to suppose
that a man has more sense
than he uses, because a man of much
sense must of necessity, have enough
to know how to use it.
This week, so far, has been rather
dull. T1 o conference people
were with us 1 ;t week and the dis
appearance of vo many strange people
on ourstivets makes u striking
change.
The growth of truck farming in
this section of the county along the
railroad has been wonderful durinu
the last year or two, and the next
few years will bring still more wonderful
results.
"The soundness of Senator Mc
Laurin's democracy may be measured
by noting that it is receiving
plaudits of the men who have opposed
democratic principles all their
lives."?The Commoner.
Next year i> election year again
and the campaign is likely to be as
interesting as that of last year.
McLaurin's race for re-election will
be interesting. It is not settled as
to who his opponents will be. He
may have one from very close home
That was a sensible suggestion
made by Gen. E. W. Moisc to the
farmers here on last Salesday in the
course of his speech on the exposi
tion to the effect that they live at
home and board at the same place just
as much as possible. If heeded it
will make our farmers prosperous
and independent of the whole world
Ik such a thin^ can be done, the
railroad should be moved out of Main
Street before always. The trains
with their smoke and racket often
disturb the most solemn legal proceedings
in the court room, and what
is worse, disturb reiigious congregations
in their devotions at one of our
principal churches, the smoke from
t. the engines ruins the paint on our
. buildingsalong the principal street1
4
v. .. v %
ami show windows cannot be kept
clean. Ml this because the railroad,
was not, in the beginning,
forced to come in sonic other way.
Move it away from Main Street or
move Main Street to some other.

I wonder why our R. U. Commissioners
