THURSDAY, MAY 2 1001 The niftUcr of u suitable exhibit for our county at tho Exposition next winter should be a matter of deep concern to every patriotic citi zen. Gen. E. W. Moiso is to address the people on the subject next Monday at the court house. If you wish to visit the town on business you cannot do better than to come that day and be entertained by what you shall hear as well as attend to your business while here. Oi;n readers will find in another column an b ! cresting letter from Mr. W. D. Mil- man who has been in business in Sot. h Florida for some time. From hi ' 'tor, it seems that it is a remarkably fertile country in need of development. Strange that in this enlightened day of bibles and evangelists there should be people near to our doors who are so hopelessly wicked that they do not regard the Lord's Sabbath It would seem to be a good field for business men who would like to engage in the naval stores business. Conwav' future depends upon her "citizens more than upon anything else. The town will be what they make it It is true that geographical advantages and other things come in for their share of consideration in the building of a own, but the main thing is tho push and energy, tiie indomitable goahead spirit of the men who live in it. The unsuccessful individual does nothing and ?says that circumstan cos niuke the man, while he who succeeds goes ahead and makes the eir cumstances to suit his purposes. The same may bo said of a collection of men who are citizens of a town. Hehe and there throughout the county arc broad tracts of uncultivated land valuable at present for its turpentine and timber only and not even for this in some localities What we would like to do is to sell these lands to industrious farmers from other counties where lands are dear and labor scarce. Already they are finding out that we have lands remarkably fertile which can be bought at remarkably low prices. Let everybody encourage the move To Correspondents. Tlio Hxrai.h wants a good correspondent, at every important point in tli eounty, who will lake an inter est in sending to ns as soon as possible any item of interest lie may gather. We always publish our coi respondents' letters when it is possible to do so, but some times, as is the case with every newspaper, we find our space short and have to *ut out some of the matter and some times perhaps leave out an entire commit mention. The writer should not get mad when this happens and decide that we did it through carelessness or out of spite to him lie may be sure that when we leave out any tiling of importance, we leave it out because it is necessary. Consider it in the right way and write again as if nothing had happened. Then again, always be sun { os?i d in your communication by Monday's mail if possible and at least by Tuesday's if you wish it to appear that week. Gideon News. On Tuesday of last week as Mrs. C. I'. Spivoy and young son Ilinson. were i oturning home, the mule they were driving became frightened and ran away. After running about IP>0 yards, and making one or two short curves, he dashed into a gate and into the lot knocking off one side of the stall. The cart was turned over and Mrs. Spivoy was thrown out upon the ground, completely demolishing the cart but not very serious ly injuring Mrs Spivoy. After running about 100 yards further the mule gave out and Ilinson. his rider, sprang from his back, having remained in thesaddlc during the entire performance. M. I f ? o ? Bisco. Plsnsant weather.
