We can call this an unusual season of prosperity and while it lasts we nood all over the county men of push and energy who will develop our resources while the conditions arc favorable. Has the election settled it that the truets are popular with the masses of the people? This is the claim of some of the Republicans, but of course they are mistaken. And white farmers in search of locations have | found good farming lands in this county at reasonable prices. Suppose litis turns out to he the case, will it be the worse for the people? We do not believe it will. The substantial wealth of a nation or state is found in its agricultural resources. The most independent people on the I'aeo of the earth are those who depend upon the soil for a living. Put a man into a new world to make a living and almost by nature, he looks lirst to the fo.est because there he gets quicker ret urns As the forest becomes exhausted he gradually turns to the soil. A great number of our people make a living entirely from the forest, chipping the trees and gathering the naval stores, or hauling the logs away to 1 make lumber, staves or shingles. Kre long they will begin to tind it impossible to get along at these occupations ami they wiii their attention more ami more to the cul tivation of the soil. This, we predict, will result in making the eowu try more prosperous and wealthy.
