Its recent editorial printed in this issue would indicate sac., a conclusion as this. Horry County is indeed to be congratulated for the magnificent vote that she rolled up for Hon. Robt. B. Scarborough on the 11th inst The voters felt that it, was their fight as well as that of Mr. Scarborough's. When it comes to the matter of fighting for the advancement L of this county, the people will never b$ found lagging, for they are as ' loyal to the best interests of their W country as any people on the face of ! the earth. Never in the past have they been found wanting in perseverance and courage. The light in the 6th. district is over. The candidate which was to be defeated, and the one which was to l>o successful is a matter completely settled and determined. It is therefore time to put down the feelings of antagonism which wen bound to exist in the hearts of the men on the opposing sides. It is proper to make up now and let the feelings aroused by the struggle become a thing of the past. Let both sides come together and encourage J the successful candidate in his efforts to mako for the 6th district a record ofwhich the p>ip!o will In proud. HE PE ivi . Ilor ry scampaign this year is far ahead t of the mud slinjijino campaigns made ! n in some of the counties. Th entire number of twenty-six candidates c showed a disposition to keep all e matters of a personal and dis ??jjivea- I hie nature out of their campaign \ and 1 hey deserve credit for it. Hot ! as to this matter we are proud to t say t hat as a general rale this county s has always set an example that the i ! other eounties of the State mi^ht 1 well follow. jc I r The 11 Kit a i. i i wishes to express U the 1 hanks of Horry County to t lio |1 people of the (?lh district for the 1 way they honored her son in the 1 race for congress. In every cor- 1 nerofthe district Scarborough liad friends who were loyal and true. * The malicious slanders circulated ' against him and the unfair campaign made against him could have no elTeet. while his battles were icing fought by friends too loyal to believe the slar.dcrs, ami too wide ' ' % \ awake to be outdone by the cunning \ j and tricks of a wily politician. The \ I defeat of Hon. James Norton was a } ! great victory a victory to be proud j I of?and Horry wishes to give all the credit and glory that is due to . the rest of the district along with j I her heartfelt thanks. ?????? i On last Thursday just after wc J had gone to press, word was circa- i luted about town and places ncarh\, i that there would be a meeting that night at the Horry Warehouse, for the purpose of congratulations upon 1 | tlic success of this county's candi'date in the race for congress. The district listened and caught the inspiration, Robt. 1>. Scarborough had been nominated by a good majority and won a great victory. No 1 wonder then that the people of town and county should meet together for the purpose of celebrating the ' success of llorrv's worthy son. The meeting was scheduled to open immediately after train tune. No estimate was made of the large crowd which assembled at that hour upon the spacious floor of the tobacco Warehouse, but almost the entire floor space was crowded. A band had been engaged to furnish music and refreshments were ' served in plenty. Mr. J. D. Hume constructed a cannon for the occa' sion and every few minutes it sent forth a torrent of powder, smoke and lire with an explosion which caused the building to vibrate and people with nerves to start, barrels of rosin had been set on fire along the principal streets and they ' lit up the surrounding buildings 1 with a brilliant light. The meeting was ca'.lcd to order by State Senator McDerinott who stated the object of the meeting in a few well chosen words. At the nieie mention of the name of the next congressman the crowd yelled 1 itself hoarse. The chairman int.roiducedas the first speaker Mr. I). A. Spivey and he was followed by ' ' Messrs.
