The advanced price in cotton, it,

great blessing, which not only is enjoyed

upward tendency to every department
of trade. Every department
of business is strengthened thereby
and our people generally have a
stronger grip than for many years.
The State Fair at Dallas, Texas
last week was tremendous. Hon.
William J. Bryan was present and
thousands of people from all over
the country assembled to do honor
' to the democratic leader. Wherever
he goes great crowds greet him.
No matter in what corner of this
great country lie appears, just such
scenes await him. His magnetism
is unquestioned ?His political enemies
admit it and it disturbs thorn
almost beyond the limitof endurance.
The incident between Governor
MuSweoney and the news boys while
in New York is tender, and leaked
t out through the Governors friends,
some witnessing it. Having boon
one of the "elan" 'in his younger
days and desiring to show his young
son who was with him, what his
father did at his age, he pushed his
way into a great crowd of newspaper
boys. As soon as they became
aware of who he was, Governor

much swollen and pained him so ,

but nothing gave any relief until he

The details of the affair can not be j
obtained tonight. Dr. Maxcy Dee. a :
prominent physicians, about HO years
old, shot and fatally wounded his
own father, Dr. II. .1 Dee, at tholnlter's
home. The shooting seems to
have been the result of the father rebuking
tho son for some nngry words
spoken to the housekeeper, Dr. H.J.
Dee and his son, Maxcy, live together
and practice medicine together. The
younger gentleman was in Darlington
yesterday, and is said to have
been drinking, which inay account
for the terrible deed. The shooting
occurred at the Lee homestead, at
Lydia, very late yesterday afternoon.
The Leo family is one of the most
prominent in this county, and is a
wealthy one. The tragedy is decoy
regretted by all the friends of the
parties.

On the 10th of December, 1897,

was attended from the beginning by
violent coughing, lie says: "After
