Send them help. At the regular meeting of the Young Men's Literary League last Friday night was discussed the question, "Ought Conway be incorporated." Our young men show themselves quite bold to agitate even among themselves this tabooed question. Not only bold but quite radical ni*4 premature, in presuming to decide it in the affirmative. Of course it is quite impractical and utterly impossible; but young men of this day aro given to high-flown theorizing. In excuse for such conduct one of them says that they certainly do not menu to horrify the practicality of their seniors by preaching such heritical doctrines on the street. In the proceedings published last week a great mistake appears in the case of the State against Kbenezor Hoggins and Jane Hoggins for ad ministering poison. Tho case wns continued for further evidence. On Tuesday Sam Long, Bill Duncan, and Adam Owes, of Conway, were before tho same vigilant authority for illicit distillery. The courts have decided that re fusing to take periodicals from the oflico or removing or leaving them uncalled for, is prima facie evidence of intentional fraud. Publishers of newspapers, can under law, arrest any man for fraud who takes a paper and refuses to pay for it. Editor Horry IIkrali>;?According to previous arrangement, the Willow Branch Literary Society met the Toddvillo Literary Society in a match debate on the 19th inst. The query for decision was, "Is it right to inllict capital punishment on circumstantial evidence?" The I Willow Branch delegation insisted, before the debate began, that it must be admitted that it is right to inllict j capital punishment on direct evidence. This caused some confusion at first; but the matter was settled and the contest began. Willow Branch first took the floor in the affirmative. The speaker's argument was the relation of a lengthy case involving circumstantial evidence, in which case the supposed murderer was a colored man. The chain of evidence was well connected, but the speaker failed to show that it was right to inflict capital punishment on the supposed murderei. The two other speakers for the Willow Branch Club made long speeches, but said little on the quory. Messrs. II. II. Woodward, W. T. Armstrong, and I. J. Cox, of the Toddville Society made strong arguments directly on their side of the question, and the judges were ob1! .1 i - 1 1 < i ?" ngen 10 ueciue in uio negative. The audience was well entertained. Mr. W. T. Armstrong, who has been running a saw at the mill of Mr. II. I,. Buck, has left to take charge of a mill at Hanford, S. 0. Occasional. The bodies of ten or eleven of those who were drowned on Magnolia Beach have been recovered, and search is still being made for the rest. j % Mr. \V. McO. Puck returned on the 18th from a visit to Glenn Springs. We are pleased to note great improvement, and hope he will enjoy good health this Winter. No doubt the Springs are a great health resort.
