Conservative Senators have not abandoned hope of reaching some sort of a compromise, with or without the consent of President Cleveland. It will be some time before the speech of Senator Daniel of Ya., against the Yorhees bill is forgotten. The Senator is a pleasing orator at all times, but it was the plain spoken manner in which lie asserted his right to differ with the President in regard to the Onnncinl situation and the necessity for the unconditional repeal of the purchasing clause of the silver law, together with the slaps, inferred rather than spoken, against his party colleagues who have changed front on this question in obedience to Mr. Cleveland's wishes, that will cause the speech to he remembered. The populist are going to use it as a campaign document againt (VKerrall, the democratic candidate for governor of Virginia.
