Part of Springfield, This State' Visited and Wrecked to-dayTho Columbia Journal. Spuingpikm), S. C., May 3.?A terrible cyclone today struck the outer cd^e of this town. The new administration by the jdedos of President Cleveland's inaugural address is committed. 1. To a sound and stable currency. 2. To refuse bounties and snbsi dies. 3. To check wild and reckless pension expenditure. i. To limit public expenditures to public necessities. 5. To make eflicioncy rather than partisan service the basis of appointments to choice. 0. To use the powers of the federal government to restrain trusts and combines. ?. To secure to all citizens equality before the law. 8. To accomplish tariff reform and make the necessity?for government revenue the limit of the exercise of the taxing power* 11 is a democratic programme, a programme which tlx,1 people wish to soo carried out. It will be opposed stubbornly at every point by interests which thrive on the evils democratic endeavor seeks to correct but President Cleveland in carrying it out will have the disinteresting patriotism of the country supporting him as it has seldom, if ever before, I united to sustain a president in his policy.?Albany Angus. ?A loving word is always a safe word. 11 may or it may not be helpful word to thoonewho hears it, but it is sure to bo a pleasant memory to the one who speaks it. Many a word spoken by is afterwards regretted; but no word of affectionate appro* ciation to which we have given utterance finds a place among our sadly remembered expressions. Looking back over onr intercourse with a dead frien 1 or fellow-worker, we may, indeed, regret that wo were over botra . ed into a harsh or hasty or unloving word of censure or criticism in that intercourse, and we may wish, vainly that wo had uoW the privilege of saying all tho loving words that we might honestly have spoken while he waS yet with us; but there will never come into our hearts aa such a time as single pang of regret over any word of impulsive or deliberate affection which passed our lips at any time. We have reasons to boon our guard in our stmech in most diraetions* but. u-n chii bo fearlessly froo in our loving utterance. ? Sunday School J'imcm, ?Tho spirit of forgiveness and forbearance is necessary to the christian life. While wo are in tho world wo stand in nco for forgiving, and being forgiven; of bearing with others, and being bourne with ourselves. ?-Do not be concerned about the question, '.Shall wo know each other in heavou 'f1' when you pass your next door neighbor without speaking to him. Ail American Mule. The American mule is in danger of suffering from discriininatio i in favor of the pauper-broil animal ol South Franco. l?or years the French West Indians have been largo buyers of American mules, and the trade has been important enough t?i make the Frenchmen anxious to capture it. Letters received by shippers from their correspondents in the islands say that the writers 1 understand that the French government is t> give a bounty for shipments of mules, to the colonies, tho I amount being big enough to make | the shutting off of importations from j this country extremely probable. I About one thousand mules are s hip; pod to the French Islands annually. J bloct I'll' I ?i 11 crs. This remedy is becoming so well known and so popular as to need no special mention.
