fJ _ The Ifof{fir Herald Published Every Thursday, E. NORTON 'Editor. J. T. MAYERS, Gen'l. Managor. A Protected Industry. New York, October 9.?After several failures the efforts of the type founders to form a combination have at last proved successful. The new trust will be known as the Typo Foundry* Oompauy. It has been in corporated under the laws of tlie State of Ne<v Jersov. with n /mnifcul stock of $9,000,000, consisting of forty thousand shares of common stock. Tito officers have already been selected. The) are: Hobt. Allison, president: W. H. Maokellar, vice president: A. T. 11. Grower, secretary; G. 11. Jordan, Eastern manager; John Maider. Western manager. Cincinnati gets the presidency, Philadelphia lias the vice presidency, and Now York the secretaryship and Eastern management. All type fonndrsr are enthusiastic. They think that profits can he easily increased to a million dollars a year and one or two go so far as to count on a million and a quarter or a mil lion and a half anually. They have not yet made arrangements to raise prices. There is, however, one obstacle to the complete supremacy of the trust. A. 1). Farmoi Kni, I) - c ... , V,.. mill vn_U l?l'lia'8 OOll lV I Co, of this city, have refused to join it . II. Barnlnrt Bros & Spindler, of Chicago, have declined to join tho| combination, but it is said they are willing to sell out to it. The same statement is made concerning the I Keystone Type Foundery, of Fhila-j delphia. DANGKH TO 4'I1KISTI ANS FROM THK WORM). That tho world is unsatisfactory we all have experience, though there are not many who soom to be properly acquainted with its unsatisfactory nature, llonoc the generality of mankind persist in seeking their happiness from the same perishing objects notwithstanding innumerable miscarriages unci disappoutmeuts, which they rather choose to ascribe accidental causes than to any inherent imperfection in the things theni selves. They cannot resist the persuasion that riches, high place, and sensual pleasures, would yield them full contentment, provided certain outward circumstances could bo retrenched; and under this deception they return again and again to their former purpose, in hope that by more skillful efforts they shall be able to overcome every adventitious obstruction, and to extract that felicity which hitherto has eluded their pursuit. Of this mistake no one will ever be thoroughly convinced, tili ho is brought to a proper knowledge of himself and situation; till he knows that all creatures, as such, are unequal to his capacities of enjoyment, and that this disproportion is still farther increased by sin; that it is this which has subjected all subln nary nature to vanity, has perverted the just, order of human life, tarnished its honors, and polluted its pleasures, and eeen drawn down a malediction on the very ground on which we tread. When he is fully acquainted with this state of things and not before, his fond dreams of unmixed happiness here below will vanish, he will no longer struggle against the general doom, but conttedly, with the sweat of his brow, eat his bread till he return to the dust, whence he was taken. To know the danger cf the world is to be aware of its powerful tendency to divert the mind from the consideration of a future state. It is not, indeed, without its perils in lower respects; by its wrongs and its flatteries it daily reduces multitudes from opulence to beggary, from honor to shame, and from the vigor of n.wl ' ' *.v;cww.. ?mu tjuungin 10 ino pains and languors of disease, which, if considered, would greatly abate its value with every, man of common prudence. But ail this is nothing when coin, pared with the danger arising from it to our eternal welfare, by seducing that attention which is necessary to secure it; and whether this is effected by the business or the pleasures, the duties cr amusements of life, the result will be the same; if our hearts are in the world we have no treasure to expect beyond it. When, therefore, we see men forward to embark inall affairs, and to mix in all societies without any regard to their final account, we must charge them with that kind infatuation which those who, for the sake of a trifle, will risk an object of great and undoubted importance, nor will the charge at all extenuated, however, by their dexterity to assume the spirit and manners of those who are necessary to their purpose, and to shape themselves to all occasions, that they may pass in vulgar opinion as matters of life. WORK FOR ICY FRY ON 12. It is God's law in the natural worM that all faculties and forces shall lie developed by use. Our natural powers can only attain enlargement by being employed. The very birds can only put sweetness and clearness into their notes by constant exercise. The same law holds good in God's, kingdom. The germ of grace in the heart is one tiling; the fullrounded, \igorous Christian is another. The one is Cod's gift outright; the other is Cod's gift in j response to nu n's faithfulness. The 1 one comes of fniih without works;' liOJ the other comes of faith that works. ' Christian life is a service out of which conies character, manhood, the likeness of (Sod. It was just before our Lord went to the cross that he said, "I have finished the work which thou gavest mo to do.'' It was not untill thejaxc of martyrdom gleamed in tlio apostle's face that ho said, "1 have finished my course." These utterances are significant. They imp'y earnestly faithful lives, God's kingdom is an incessant appeal to activity. There are idlers in the vineyard, but they are out of place. A whole ehont> of voices joins the voice of God, until the whisper rolls into thunder, saying to every man and woman in the Church: "Go work in my vine* yard." The church is prcmemi neatly u working institution And wlmt large and constant opportunity! Think of yourself. How little you know as yet of tlie kingdom and grace of God. How limited is your Christian experience. And y< t all the gates of this multiform b'essod life of Christ are open to yon. How much vou need, before thoso about you can detect the image divine! It takes work to produce the comely statue from the rude block. So in Christian growth. Look about you! How many aro dependent upon and will be influenced by you. The responsibility has something sublime in it, and vet it is serious. Vou are to help those up or down. How eminently useful or harmful you may be. All depends on \our fuithfullness as a Christian. mm. :.. i. i i ..lit i i * i 111111\ nuw .snort ino nine is: a few days, and every opportunity nt hand will be gone. There, too, (tod's love is something. It gave you a Saviour; it offers )ou salvation it holds open the white gates of glory and bids you enter. Have you no response of Christian fidelity for all that? On all sides these appeal to deligence and faithfulness in the Christian moves toward me, with pleading, hosceching mien, that I may be stirred to duty for (loci, my soul, and the souls of others. Follower of Christ, is there not much for you to do? Surely you arc not to ho a mere looker on like children and idlers watching a procession. No! to every man his. to every woman her, work. Do you ask, "What shall I do?t' Begin with what is at hand, and that done, straightway something else will challenge you. The Sunday school has need of you and you have need it. The prayer meeting lias need of all and who that wishes to grow ii. grace and render service in the kingdom, can do without the prayer meeting? And there are the regular services of the sanctuary. What stimulus to Christian activity, and to spiritual fruitfulness would come of faithful nes* hero. If each man. each woman, would pray for ami attend those services only as they might, what power would come to the churches! Mow tho waste places would begin to blossom and yield as a garden. Faithfulness in these will not only afford opportunity for other worl< at once, but qualify for its experience. The time for rest is gone by. Life never was so solemn and earnest The world never was so needy Oh for the spirit of fruitful work among us! nf. Happy I loonies. Win. Titnmons, Postmaster o ldavillc, I ml., writes: "Flectrio Hitters lias done more for me than all other medicines combined, for that feeling arising from Kidney and Liver trouble." John Leslie, farmer and stockman, of same place, says: "Find Fleetric Hitters to be the best Kidney and Liver medicine, made me feel like a new matt." J. Gard, ner, hardware merchant, same town says: Electric Litters is just the thing for a man who is all run down and don't care whether he lives or dies; be found new strength, good appetite and felt just like he had a a new lease on life, nly 50c. a hot tie, at Dr. F. Norton, Drug Store. Let's reason together. Here's a firm, one of the largest the country over, the world over; it has grown, step by step, through tlie years to greatness -ami it sells nntnnt ill it/1 1 _ I ~ ine s!?ugh! "That's enough!"? J Fait a little? This lirm pays the newspayors good money (expensive work, this advertising!) to tell the people that they have faith in what they sell, so much faith that if they cant benefit or cure they don't want your money. Their guarntee is not indefinite and relative, but definite and absolute?if the medicine doesn't help your money is "011 call." JJ Suppose every sick man and every feeble woman tried these medicines and found them worthless, who would be the loser, you or they? The medicines are Dr. Pierce's "Golden Medical Discover," for blood diseases, and his "Favorite Prescription," for woman's peculiar ills. If they help toward health, they cost $1,00 a bottle each! If they don't, they cost nothing! lteiiicmhoi* That Johnson's Chiil and Fever Tonic will cure chill and fever, billions fever, malarial fever, Swamp and Hemorrhagic fever, also now ralgia and LaGripp, and if it fails to do so your money will he returned.
