The II cadqunrters of the Kquitable H and L. association is in Augusta (2ii., ami its object is to lend money at 0 per cent per annum on unencumbered real estate in town or country. The condition on which a loan can be obtained is, the applicant subscribes at. least for double the number of shares at $100 each as the loan calls for. To* borrow $500 dollars, ten shares must bo subscribed for, of eour.-e subscribers can borrow as much less than half the amount of their shares as they please. Subscribers pay fifty cents per share on each share taken and those who borrow, (5 per cent additional on amount borrowed. Ten shares require the payment monthly of live dollars and if the party borrows five hundred dollars, he must pay an additional two dollars and a half making the total monthly payment. $7.50, or ninety dollars for the year. The estimate now is that these payments will have to be made for eight years, but may close at an earlier date, farmers can make arrangements for semi-annual payments to accommodate their conven ience and time when they have money. This is on excellent way fo borrovr money and pay the amount by easy installments. Nearly all th# towns in the State have been built up in this way and it behooves the people of Conway and Horry County to bestir themselves and make a forward movement. A .Wnrriagc. "The Mysterious Choir Hoy," a beautiful story full of the Kinder spirit?the uprising of rejoicing life from conditions dark as duath is by Henry Kirk White,dr. The jolly April First Story, "Cholleinyisses' Atlllcted llolliday," is by the author of Cape Cod Folks; "Hong Wing's Sea Voyagc," the fanciful tale by K. Cummlngs, otters the to* curiouf boy a lesson in a shape in which he will laughingly accept it. "A host Story," by Anna 'leach, will commend itself to the lovers of Mans Anderses. "The Story of my Hank Hook," by Louisa Truinbell Cogswell, is one of the best tales of the times for youthful readers. "The Cook of Sebastopol" is an amusing reminiscence of a Russian Hen oral. The young people in Margaret Sidney's l'eppers Serial constantly get in to all sorts of interesting trouble. The hero of "Cab and Caboose," Kirk Mun roe's serial, shows his "clear grit." "Marietta's Good Times" are unique, and not to he had in any land but Italy. In the line of articles, there Is "Egg-rolling at the White House" on Easter Monday, by Prof. Mason; 'Easter Day beyond the Sea," by Amanda H. Harris, and "A Precious Hug," by the same author; "linked Hooks," by Kev. J. M Thompson; "A Hlack Prince," by Walter Hough of the Smithsonian Institution; "Concerning Hats," by Grant Allen, and "Strange I Footgear," by Margaret Lake. If you ever passed through such an experience you will remember the relief felt when you realized you were near a life saving station with its corps of heroes, and you will be glad to know more of the life of those "brave watchers by the sea;" and oven a confirmed stay-at-home will be interested in the handsomely illus trated article 011 "Our Life-Saving Service" in the May number of Demorest's Family Magazine. From the same comprehensive source you may also gain some very interesting information about the Isthmus States Central America (finely illustrated) "Signs of Character in the Face: Ho i to Head Them" (also illustrated) will enable you to judge more correctly of human nature; and the excellent paper on "Delsurto and the Delsartean Philosopher," vitlia portrait of the philosophy. will answer that oft-repeated question, "Who is Delsarte, and what is philos- j ophy?" The writer concludes ] that to adopt Free Coinage as a plank in , the platform of the party would injure If I not destroy its prospects at the coming Presidential election. Mr. Henry Clews, in "The University vs. against the Count* ing-1 louse," argues strongly against a university training for the bulk of our youth; while the Rev. Gerald Stanley Lee argues quite as strenuously and more eloquently In the opposite sense. Mr. Fre I ! Lvster, in "Thoughts on Matters Lyric and ' Dramatic" advocates the claims of opera in Italian (not Italian opera) against Wagner and the Germans. The number is unusually strong in ffction. The complete novel is by the 7/ell known anther Mrs. J. 11. Walworth. The title is "Slip-knots," having reference to the looseness of the marriage-tie in this country. The story is strong in plot and character-drawing, full of incident, and very well written. Be sides this there is "A Polkvillc episode," by Lucius C. Kmhreo; and "A New Spectroscope," a brilliant little semi humorous story, by William Wirt Howe. Dr. Felix Oswald contributes some useful "Popular Science Notes"; Col.
