Mr. Moody ut the l'raycr-Meoi i ???Well, I proposed in the hist letter to j^ivo I)octor Fit/jonahl a rest, hut he says we must g? to prayermeeting before wo tell Moody ipjodhyo. I am ^hnl Dr. Kit/Gerald likes to attend prayer-moeliiiG? and won't have that .service overlooked, lb; is rioht, iind 1 think we would all ho interested in this mooting if we would make it its spiritual ami us spirited as Moody does. Come on, and we will see how !><> it T.ho meeting is hold in the largo church used for the inquiry meeting, us described in a former letter. You son, before wo go away from the Tabernacle people are turning back from the doors of the church. 'Is it full?" Yes, full to overflowing. 4 *For a prayer mooting?" Yes, and that after a service just held in the Tabernacle! Mow the simple story of the gospel charms the multitude! Now here is a chance lo demonstrate our fitness to survive. \Y o are Methodists, but we believe firmly in tl^o final perseverance of the saints if they will only persevere; so wo won't gi vo it up, but work our way through the refluent throng. The meeting is held from -1 to 5 e. m., and Moody's watch keeps good time?much bolter than is usual with clcri^l watches. 1 ly knows where to begin and how to stop. If lie says the so ibices will close at 4 o'clock, it closes at 4 o'clock?-not fifteen or twenty minutes after 4 o'clock, lie has no "one word more," or "just another point," to blunt the edge of his sermon, lie uses the nir-brakc -mark the word and can stop short. Well, we are in at last, and the house is packed; bul we must not stand in the aisles. Mr. Moody never allows the aisles to bo filled keeps them open as a precaution against accidents. They are singing "Thoro is ft fountain filled with blood," and after the song is finished Mr. Moody ask that every tiling lie kept quiot whilo wo spend a*few moments in silent prayer. At once a solemn hushjfalls on the assembly, and a thousand heads are bowed. This season of silent prayer, lasts perhaps three minutes, when Mr. .Moody says: "Now lot every one continue bowed in prayer, and if any one desires prayer, let tlio request be made now." Promptly a timid voice is hoard, but wo could hardly distinguished it. .Moody says, "A mother ashs prayer for her soin;" then a wife for her husband, a friend for a friend, a Sunday-school teacher for her class, and so on unt'l perhaps a hundred requests have been presented in 'a fow minutes. Notice the beauty of brevity; one long-winded requost would spoil every thing; but they are short, "Let every budv pray," he -;iv.< and when silence again brood; on tic; great audience Aloud} say?: "If there is an unsaved persor hero who desires us t<> nriiv for them will you stand up? IVrhaps ;i do/on or more rise; wo do net set. them, for Mr. Moody wisely keeps ti>e heads of the people bowed. Now ho says, "Will some one lead us in ji i brief prayer Dt us have a nutnl ei of prayers." A brother at once responds. Did you time him? Just mt minute. Perhaps you never knew before how much can be said in one minute, t )f course there was no time to tell God how great he is, or to discuss hit* attributes, or to try to convince him that you do believe him; but there was time enough for a deepy.u v of the heart to pierce his ear, and as one after another of there burdened spirits spunk to lied it may 1)0 wo will out nn idea of prayer wo never luul before. Presently there comes a pause, aiul Moody says: "Lot us all kneel down; let everybody kneel who eun, and l'rof. Case will lend us in sino ino very .-toj'tii/. "More holini'sp |dvc me." The tones of the oroitn and the rich voice of the loader float out so oontlv and tenderly that a sleeping babe would not be disturbed. The strain is taken up by the conor-.ration, but it is suiiii' by hundreds in such subdued tones that it is not livn.'vboerhaos out there on the side Upon the f spiritual souLat the of the elolio!" t beat faswere lis Is, invisible lor the input. did vou ilinir of ' he a seraj Ids <* art* vorv iBBBHusH^V1 is < >f his forvid wrestles > to J room for private I V 7 " T 1 ":*.,jwi!i kicio. h<)/'os the workers to stands JiaiJ^ist in instrueting wil'j*. j:(. lf{^>''\i^ (>s the ??l?'?*t i li|r to tin) ,. \aVgo. It is time? don't you think it is? In about two hours he has to go into the great evening service. A constitution of* less strength would sink under such i in i luense ami eontionmius toil; but he has a largo fund of physical power* One evening, alter one of the delightful prayer-meetings, 1 met a lady in the passage way between the audience and the lecture roer.i. She had a little child about three years old by the hand, and asked me for Mr. Moody. I told her I supposed he had gone, but could not tell; lie II 1 I* I generally slipped away from that service us soon as ho could leave it. She said, with a woman's eunnin?r. Iii "Well please tell.mo where he puts his hat and e^iat, and .1 will wait 1 y them; 1 know he will not loavo them; and I must have him put his hand on my little boy's hand." Did I von over? "Well, madam," 1 ro; plied, "he has trained that hat and coat to he as sly'at this servie as he is himself; hut if ho knew what you wanted, J am sure ho would be glad to bless the little boy."
