A firm in Philadelphia lately pave $1,000 to the General Synod’s Board of Foreign Missions to pay one year’s salary of a missionary. A monument in honor of the in ventor, John Erickson, was dedi cated in Stockholm. The Ameri can minister, W. W. Thomas, took part in the ceremonies. Rev. Wm. Beck, the founder of the Inner Mission work in Den mark, died at Oersley, at the age of 72 years. He was especially ac tive in furthering the^woik of lay preachers, for which object he or ganised a society some forty years ago, which now employs 150 preact- crs and 80 colporteurs. These have charge of 400 mistdon houses (prayer chapels) in Denmark, and have an annual income of about $45,000. Rev. A. Aaron has been commis sioned to begin English work in Passaic and Patterson, N. J. Dr. Audreen was installed as president of Augustana College and Semi nary, and Rev. 8. G. Younger as professor in the Theological Semi nary. A new foreign mission so ciety was organized in St. Paul, Minn., to establish a mission in China to be supported by the Au- gnstana Synod. Gustavus Adol- ptius College enrolls more than 200 students. A number of Swed- ish-American papers have guaran teed a library fnnd of $10,000 to Angnstana College. The “Berg Library,” comprising 3,000 vol umes, was shipped from Sweden to Angnstana College. The Sunday-school of Christ’s Lutheran church, York, Pa , Rev. Dr. Enders, pastor, enrolls 1,098 members, whose total offerings for the past year amounted to $2,200. A second mission conference in the Pennsylvania Ministermm will be held in Trinity chnrch, Lancas ter, on January 22. So interesting were the sessions of the Philadel phia Mission Conference that a similar one was requested for Lan caster. The First English Lutheran church San Francisco, Calf, Rev. Dr. E J. Nelander, pastor, has a vested choir of forty girls whose ages range from 7 to 14 years. It is reported to be one of the few English churches in that city whose seats are well filled on the Lord’s Day. LIFE OF REV C. A. ROSE.
