Wo bare just returned from the obsequies, whieli were held nt the house of his brother-in-law, on Poplar Street. As we entered the door, we soon saw' in the sad faces of the, many friemls and ministers there assem bled, how deep down iu thy Iwart thus great sorrow had gone. Nearly all the Lutheran clergy of the city, and tunny from afar, were present to look for the last . time upon tbe face of one so universally respected and loved. It was only then, as we gazed upon those calm, pale features, that wo began to real ize the strength of our affection for him. But a four weeks ago he wrote: “So soon as I get to the ctiy'l will come and see yon.” But alas! little did we think then that we should see him thss, while tltc light of eter nity was foiling about his freed anti -happy spirit. Man projioses but Uoil ilisjsises. The exercises were soleinn and impressive, and tribnt.es of Jove were paid to his memory- Rev. Dr. G. F. Schaeffer read the Scrip tures and Rev. V. L. Conrad gave a short biography, and touched up on the many virtues and excellences of the deceased. Rev. I)r. Mulileu berg sakl ho had been associated with him us an instructor for several years. He knew much of his public and private lire; and had seen him in the work of his profession, with its cures and toils, in affliction, in sorrow, and under provocation, ,but never had lie seen him manifest other than the same quiet, forgiving and Christian spirit. Xone was ever mure faithful than lie, and uothiug but extreme illness ever deterred him from tho performance of duty. Rev. Ds. Krautli had known the deceased from a boy, and their friendship hail remained and ia creased. The high cstiuwty jmt upon him was from the known virtues which hail adorned his life.
