Connon, and was l>orn in Darlington county in thc year 1842. When n young man he came to Marl boro county and was employed on the South Carolina Temperance Advocate, theo published in Bcnnettsvillc. After wards he was conucctcd with the Times, and then with thc Marlborough Planter, under Col. C. W. Dudley. Ile married while here Miss Toland McCully, o( Columbia. From Bennetts ville he went to Florida and lived there several yearB, and then bc returned to HrowtiBville, in this county, where bc waa living at the time of his death. Ile left one child, now living in Wash ington, and one grand child, Lucile Can non, of llctincttsville. Robert Cannon bad a good mind which he improved by general reading and close observation. He was always industrious, and whatever he undertook to do he did with all his might. Ht was modest and retiring in his disposition, very positive in Iiis con victions, and had a big heart. To his friend;; he was open and confiding. To those who did not know him well or did 1 not enjoy his friendship he appeared cold and austere. In bis association with his fellow-men he was always pleasant and entertaining. Ile may have had his faults like all men, but these were always patent to thc world, und he made no at ? . , -1.1.
