Those interested in Evergreen Cemetery, and especially those who contributed money to have the walks and drives put in order, will be glad to learn that tho work has been done. Thanks are due Mr. J. T. Car roll for most valuable asaitdance in collecting fends for this pur pose. It ia hoped that the walks and drives can bo kept in order after this, and it would ho appre ciated if all would aidin this work by not leaving in them, grass hom tho lots or trash of any kind. Died in Knoxville. The sad news was received hero last Friday of the death of Mrs. Ida Wicker Murphy, which oc ? ciuod at Knoxville Friday morn ing at 4 o'clock after a long and painful illness. Drake has received a warrant for ?3,487.60 to be dis tributed among the 158 pension ers for 1903. The most numerous class this year will get only about ?17.35. There are about 500 more pensioners in the state thia year than last hence the amount to each will be less than last year. Stanton of Clio section brought us Tuesday a box of as large and luscious strawberries as were ever seen in Bennettsville. Those who saw them pronounced them the finest ever seen. On less than the 20th of an acre he has been supplying his table since the 8th of Anril, besides giving away some and has sold $10 worth. On Tuesday evening last about 6 o'clock the large barn, stables and shelter at Mr. W. W. Pate's in West Benncltsville were burn ed together with about 10 bushels corn, lot of meal, peas and 500 lbs of forage, and about 50 gallons of molasses. Just how the fire start ed is not yet known. The family were away until after the fire start ed. Tho barn and stables were the property of Mr. T. L. Cros land, who had somo insurance. Sale of Easter Lillies. Some idea of the magnitude of this trade in Boston may ho gath ered from the fact that one firm brought in at one time ten car loads. As the plants were put in crateR about 24 to a crate the cars were filled to the roof.
