DAIRYING.
Keep the Hull Up.
Ahull that is worth keeping
at all is worth taking care of,
consequently the farmer cannot
afford lo allow him to ruu with
the cows. When a cow is to be
ored she can be turned with the
bull, and after he lies covered
once or twice slip should ba
taken away and put in a quiet
place where the oilier cows can
not worry her. If the bull is
allowed to ruu at large with the
herd he exhausts himself for no'
purpose, he worries the cows aud
excites the herd, so it is money
in Hie fanner's pocket to keep
his bull confined and take good
care of him. A bull should be
fed carefully so as to keep hun
in good thrifty condition. He
should have about the same
raliou as a cow producing three
gallons of milk daily.

The demand for good dairy
cows in the South is increasing
rapidly and ij is a profitable
business for the farmer to raise
till the good grade heirer calves
he can gut. He should feed them
economically, out amply, to as
to make them grow oil well and
make good thift.y cows. Just
before or after they come fresh
they can be sold for a good price
and an ample profit.
A good way is to have a pure
bred bull and let the neighbors
all use him for a small fee; then
there will bo plenty of grade
colors to purchase aud raise for
this market. Soin^ fanners
raise the calves on shares, get
ting ono-hnlfof the gross for the
raising. A poor man can soon
build up a he.*d in this way. It
does not take the calf loug to
gut to maturity, aud there is no
better way for a fanner to uti
lize his skim milk than in this
way. We need jnore and better
dairy cows in the South, and
some men can, if they will, get|
busy and make a good thing out
of raising them. It would not be
advisable, however, to raise
calves from anything but a good
cow and a pure bred dairy bull.
