Fires.
We were informed too late for
publication in last week's paper
that Mr. S. C. Kose had the mis
fortuue to have his residence
and out. houses destroyed by fire
on the evening of the 1st inst.
Some few articles of furniture
were saved. Loss \ya* partially
covered by insurance.
Rev. W. S- Walters of West
ville was burned out on tho same
day, (June 1st). He saved no
thing from the flames but an
organ and a sewing* machine.

The Camden High and Graded
schools* were closed on las*

appropriate commencement ex
ercises at the Opera House. The
total enrollmant for the year
was shown to bo 466, which was
an increase of 20 over last year.
There was seven graduates;
Masters Robert Piuckney, Doris
Mitchum and Raines Blaaeney,
and Misses Nanuie Hough, Nan
Trantham, 'Helen Phelps and
Elizabeth DnBose, Master Robt.
Pinokney was the 1st honor
graduate - with Miss Nannie

awarded to Miss Jane Bauskett

Death.
We regret to record the death
of Arthnr Sowell, which sad
event occurred on Wednesday
night, the 3rd inst. The re
muins were taken to Kershaw
on Thursday and interred in the
grave-yard there.
Struck down in vigorous youth,
with all of life before him, all
that was mortal of Arthur Sowell
now reposes in the silent tomb,
and nothing of him is left to us
but a memory, Our sympathy is

1. That it shall be unlawful for any
person or persons to place, or deposit,
or cause to be placed or deposited,
on any of the parks, street* or side
walks of the City of Camden, any dead
anitun! or fowl or .any decaying am-,
mal or vegetable mat'er or any filth or
sweepings of residence, stores, ofllces
or other build.ingt, or any waste paper
straw, hay. broken gla*s, tack, piece of
tin or metal of ait} kind whatever,

City Council may be a nuisance, or
