Judge Johnstone adjourned

ness was expedited, and it is

Fire.
On Saturday night the dwell
ing house of Mr. E. C. DuBose
.just east of Camden, was totally
-destroyed by tire.
Practically none of the con
tents were saved, and the family
barely escaped with their lives.
The loss is a heavy one to Mr.
DuBose, and we greatly regret
the occurrence. We have not
-ascertained the cause of the con
flagration.

Brights disease, Capt. J. H.
Morris, the Superintendent of
one of the State farms. Capt.
Morris was a genial, warm-)
hearted gentleman whose loss
will be deplored by a host of
friends, and whoso services will
be solely missed by the State.

to the bereaved family.
On the 4th inst., James Ches
nut, one of our most respected
colored citixens, had the mis
fortune to lose his wife by death
after a long illness. ller de
mise was caused from a compli
cation of diseases. The de
ceased was a daughter of War
ren Moore, deceased, and a sis
ter of Eugene Mooro and Mrs.
Lixzie S as port as to whom, with
the remaiuder of the family we
extend sympathy. The body
was followed to the grave on
Saturday by a large concourse
of friends.

Lt guest of the Hotel Victoria.
The Col. has just returned from
a trip across the pond, where

spoilsman. Just before taking
his depart ure for Europe he won

a great many of his friends at
his home in Winston. He has
been entertained here ou hunting
und fishing trips. We learn that
Mr. G. 11. Dauui has accepted
an invitatiou from Col. Dean to
join him iu a camp hunt iti the
near future at a point about 10
miles eastof Winston-Salem.
