Death. Tlio death of Mr. II! C. i Salmond on the morning of Au gust 17th, came as a shock to tlio entire community. While all knew of his illness, and his demise was not unexpected, the departure from life of this big | hearted and genial citizen has caused a universal feeling of sorrow. He had been a sufTerer |,along time from rheumatism, 1 1 which coupled (we think) with ijBright's disease tiually ended ) his existence. |j A tfood man has gono to his 1 1 reward. Mr, M. N. Billings and Miss Mattie Hay were happily united in the bonds of matrimony at Society Hill on the 14th, inst. We understand that our charm ing young friend, Mr. T. J. Arrants acted as best man. Our congratulations and best wishes for a long aud happy life go out to both these young couples. Job Work. We have been somewhat de layed recently in the delivery of job work given us because of the major fact that we were short of job stock, and the minor fact that we needed another printer. Both of these deficiencies have now been supplied, and we take pleasure iu informing our pa trons that we are prepared to turn out their work in short or der, and will welcome new pa trons with u guarantee of satis faction. The game of Base Ball on last Saturday between the Long Branch and Hermitage Mill teams was much enjoyed by the large crowd present to witness the game. It resulted in a vic tory for the Long Branch team by a score of 18 to nit. The bat tery for Long Branch was Dixon and West and for the Hermitage, Baxloy and Moore. The features of the game were the fine play ing of Byron Hudson, who took a flying leap to the plate at a critical moment in the game, the leap being taken when he was about half way from third base to home, jumping directly over the little short stop, who had the ball ready for Uie runner if ho hadn't jumped. Messrs. Jno. Dixon and Carl West also ex tinguished themselves. A Valuable I^esson.
