The tremendous hail storm of Tuesday, the 11th inst., was a most wonderful exhibition of the grandeur of nature. Stones fell of the dimensions of 9 to 10 inches in circumference, yet strange to say, little damage was done to growing crops and gardens. Hough, our efficient County Clerk, has returned from a very pleusaut visit to relatives In Mississippi. IIo enjoyed the visit very much, and looks pret tier than ever. ? The Rev. R. L. Cooper ar rived in the city on Saturday night and is tilling his engage ment to conduct revival services at the Baptist church. The meotiugs will continue until about July 1st. ? -Dr4 E. G. Kirven and wife of Easley, S. C. spent Monday with Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Birch more, the parents of Mrs. Kir ven. They left 011 the afternoon train for Darlington on a short visit to relatives. Who Killed the B'ar? Considerable excitement was created on last Friday morning by a report that a bear had been depridaliug oil the property of Mr. Wui. Brown of the Wateree bridge, bruin having turned over seven beehives and ex tracted the houey therefrom. It was not long after the report became current that a large possee of our most uoted sports men collected, and with a pack of houuds, started in after bru in's scalp. They got it alright, and brought his defunct body to the city in a more or less muti lated condition, as it was per forated with numerous charges of shot rauging in size from No. 8 to buck. The animal weighed 470 lbs., something fairly large for this section. We did not participate in the hunt, one reason being that we have a wholesome re spect for a live bear; am not noted as a crack shot, and care little for horseback riding. We are informed that Messrs. A. D. Kennedy, Jr., Doug. Richard son, Geo. T. Little and several others displayed a remarkable degree of agility when the bear made attempts to become more intimately acquainted with them. We made his acquaintance after he had been cut up at Mr. E. S. Nettle's bear market, and bear meat is not half bad. Badly Mixed Up. Abraham Jlrown, of Winterton, N. He is in the employ of the Bell Telephone company at I hat point, and while climbing a wet telephone polo came in contuct with a live wire which caused him to lose his hold from shock, failing to the ground, a distance of about forty i'eut, breaking one arm and severely spraining t he other. His escape from death, or more serious injury was mi raculous. lie was removed to I the Columbia hospital, and at last accounts was doing well. IllrtliJiiy Party. The eleventh birthday of our little friend, Miss Bella Block was fittingly celebrated on the 14th inst , at the residence of her father, Mr. L. Jj. Block on Do Kalb street, by the giving of a birthday party to her numerous little friends. Everything pass ed off beautifully, and all are happy. If you did not, you stand in your own light. Sandy Grove Dots. Dear Editor: Please allow me space in your noble paper for a few dots from this place. The farmers are getting aloug uicely with their work, but crops in places are very sorry. We hope they will make a good crop. We were glad to see Misses Fannie, Kate and Mabel, and also Mr. Kenneth McCuskill out at this place Sunday, from Cassatt. We are sorry to note that Mrs. Mary Jane Galloway is not any better, she is sick with typhoid fever. . We are glad to see Mrs. Mary Jane H,all out again.
