Hough fared about as well as a majority of new Senators do in Senate com mittee appointments. He was assigned to four committees, neither of them worth a rupee. We honestly think that the Lieu tenant Governor, the President of the Senate ought to have treated a Senator from an ad joining county to his own a lit tle better. Religion*. Leslie Zcmp, I>ruffgist. 00c. Death*. The sudden deaths last week of Mr. J. J. Ilodgers of West Wateree, and Capt. J. A. Ren son of this city while en route to liis home here from Bumoerg, S. C., lias cast the shadow of gloom over the spirits of those who knew the two victims of the scythe of the great reaper. They were both kindly, genial gentlemen, worthy and useful citizens, both subscribers to The People, and warm friends to its editor which factenhauces our senso of personal loss, and leads us to condole more heartily with the afflicted relatives. There mains of Mr. Rodgers were in terred in the Quaker cemetary here on Friday, and those of Capt. Ilenson found a final rest ing place within the same secred inclosure on Monday. We are informed that paralysis or heart failure was the cause of the un timely demise of these two real ly good men, Attention, I*en?loner*. Just stop for a moment and consider how awk ward it would be if there were no paper here, no way for a citi zen to express his views on mat ters of concern, except by word of mouth; no way to learn of the local happenings over the county except through gossip; no means of publishing reports of public officials, notices of tax sales, lists of jurors, time for i holding court, election notices, (election returns, etc. ttc., ex cept by tacking them on the court house door; no way for merchants to advertise their wares, uo cheap and easy way to advertise the innumerable wants of which a newspaper is now filled; no champion going each week into every newspaper office in the Btate as a repre sentative of the county. A news paper does much for a commu nity for which it makes no charge, and therefore of which little notice is taken. But all in all it plays a large part in the development of a community. ? Heyman ? Among tbe most beautiful wed dings ever witnessed in this city was that of Miss Minnie Hope Priedheim and Mr. Marion Her man Heyman of Camden, on tbe Tuesday evening at tne home of the bride 's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Friedheim on East Main] street. The marriage ceremony was at 6:30 o'clock, the officiating minister being Au Di Elzus, of [Charleston, who stood under a beautiful canopy to receive the bridal party and as the notes of Mendelsohn's Wedding March played by Miss Marion Johnson, sounded, the party entered in the following order: Miss Hat tie Auld of Eastover came down the steps and was met by Mr. Albert Friedheim and together they entered the room and stood on the right, theu entered the groom with his best man, Mr. Gay Baum, of Camden from the near door, -and they were joiued at the alter by the lovely bride who entered with her sister Miss Carrie Friedheim her maid of honor, and taking the arm of the groom -elect they stooil be fore Dr. Elzas who in a beauti ful ceremony spoke the words which made them man and wife. The bride's gift to her atten dants were gold-clover leaves set with pearls, and the groom's gifts to his best man aud grooms man were Black Jack silver loving cups. The John D. Kennedy Chapter U. D. C. has arranged to cele brate the 19th of January with appropriate services to do houor to the memory of the heroic de fender of our native Southland, Robert Edward Lee. The services are to be held at the Opera House at 12 o'clock M. The Chapter extends a cordial invitation to the veterans and sons of veterans, -with their families, to join them.
