He will natu rally ad vocate the abolition of the State dispensary, and the establishment of Couuty dis pensaries. If the Generul As semply ignores his recommenda tions ou this poiut either by de lay, or, by voting dowu any measure looking to thai object, then those so obstructing prompt legislation, or voting coutra to auy act aloug that line which has upon its face, and under tho surface the impress of fairness aud practicability, should be re quested by their constituents to stand dowu, resign, go home or somewhere outside of the legis latives halls. Common sense will teach any oue, even the ordinary legisla tor, that a majority of the peo ple of the State, by electing M. F. Ansel their Governor, set the seal ot disapproval upon the present system of selling whis key wi thiu the State. They, the people, or a majority of them have said by their vote that we disapprove of the system aud want it chauged to a system of County Dispeusaries. Tliat ma jority, composed as it was of a large proportion of the taxpuyers of the Stale did not vote for M. F. Ansel their Governor merely because of his personality. The personality of R. I. Manning is equally attractive. The issue was wliut decided the contest be tween the two men, and by the decision of that issue tho Gene ral Assembly of the State of South Carolina is bound by right and in honor to give us County Dispensaries. Wcstville Dots. Mr. Editor: This being the first- occasion that I have asked for space iu your valuable col umns, I hoi>e that this letter will escape that horror of hor rors, the waste basket. Christ inas and New Year were spent by us very pleasantly. There was a Christmas tree at Bethany church on Christmas eve night with lots of presents on it. Dr. W. C, McDowell of Kershaw, re ceived u valuable one, imme diately on the receipt of which he took a straight aud rapid chute for his home. It was a bundle of school teacher. We have had marriages and marriages urouud here this sea son, the latest beiug that of Mr. J. J. Owens and Miss Aunu Clark. There are more to fol low, as Brother Walters has an engagement to tie up a couplo on the 20th, inst. A number of our citizens met on the sunny side of Mr. It. L. Bell's store ou New Year's Day, including ourself, and exchanged confidences as to our Now Year resolutions. It was developed that Mr. D. G. Fletcher would drink no more tangle- foot; that Mr. T. A. Cauthen would tell no more whoppers; Mr. It. Li. Bell would not sand his sugar any more* while we had sworn off from cuss words. Wo felt pret ty good over our resolutiou until wo went to milk tho cows that evening. We had drawn about a bucket-full of tuilk from oue old Sookie, when she let fly with her right hnul leg, lauding us iu a fence corner, and spreading over us beautifully the bucket of milk. 'Twas a now suit too, one that we had just bought from Nathan Levy. Wo didn't say anything, but wanted to. Then we commenced to chop wood, and about the third lick, a piece of it Hew up and struck us 111 the eye. We didu't say uuythiug, but wanted to. Our next oxpenence was when wo went into the cellar about bedtime for a pitchor of molassos and somo apples for next day's baking. Having secured these articles, wo started up tho cel lar stairs, and just us wo readi ed tho top, our foot slipped, and down wo went to the bottom with molasses in our ha?r and every - I where.
