We will have celebrated the date upon which Christ, our 6avior was born in a manger ^ineleen hundred aud six years n^o, or $uppose4 to have been so .born. As a matter of history Uperely, we nieution that Chirst \^is not born on the 25th, of Dc Member, 0, that month embracing tfi) height of t'le rainy senson m Judea wheu neither flocks nor shepherds ?9uld have beeu at night in the lie^ds of Bethlehem. It is simply u festival of joy, last jAg twelve days, the date of the beginning of which was lixed jjuriug the Augustiuiau era. The iixing of the number of twelve ^i&ys as the dura' ion of tho feast wp suppose embraces the birth /fr.the Christ aud in memory of 6he eleven faithful apostles. Whatever the reason, let us re joice. We have had no pes Li j&uce. We have not had abun ,4a ut crops, but what we made we received fair prices for, and we will outer upon a new year tyfyput us v\ ?ll off in worldly pos sons ions as we entered the old. So, enjoy your Christmas, al ways of course in the proper spirit. We may mention here, merely ^as a mutter of information to ys&me who may uot know, that i-he Christinas festival ranks ?hird in the festivals of the 4ohurch, Easter, tlio commemo ration of tho resurrectiou of our &ord ranking first, aud Whit suntide, which marks the de scending of the spirit of God Upou the faithful on the day of Pentecost being second. Co-Oi>crntion iu Britain. Its membership numbers two and a quarter million and has a combined capital of over one hundred and eighty million dol lars. Tlicr net profits for last year were near lifty million. The people who waut to start a co operative business subscribe the capital iu shares of $>5.00 to $20.00. No'one persou is allow ed to own more than $1,000 in shares. No share- holder lias more than one vote iu the man agementof the business, whether lie owns $5.00 or $1,000 worth of stoclc. This rule is to save it from the tyranuy of the capita list. Any one may become a mem ber on paying a small entrance fee. Share holders may pay up their shares at the rate of three pence a weelc or they may bor row the full sum required at moderate interest. The uet profits of the business are not allowed to exceed five per cent. The profits are divid ed among all members iu propor tion to their purchases. The purchasers know that what they give out with ono hand they re ceive back with the oilier. Among the commendable fea tures of this Rockdale plan is, they do not recommend the pro duction or sale of shoddy, cheap articles or sell at cut rates, but encourage the production and use of better goods. He has had it for 5J3 years, and sttauge to say, while he has only ouo arm, he is able to use the strop, and frays that it has only two clips in the leather. This is something that few men can say who have had a razor strop only a few weeks. Mr. Steed says that he pur chased the strop from a man bv the name of Smith. He stated that the old fellow travelled up up mid down the Georgia road, and was known as "Smith, the I Razor Man." Mr. Steed says that Smith was a very witty man, and was a good "spieler." He saiil that on one occasion he made a stump speech, advertising his strops, when a young man who was about half drunk walked up audi said: "Smith you lie," Smith very quickly retorted, "yes I lie, aud you do too, but I lie differently, I lie in a feather bed and you lie in the ditch.' Mr. Steed prizes his razor strop very highly, and says that he hopes to use it the remainder of his life.
