Tho record of tlfe Camden team last week was very credit able. We tied one game with Orangeburg, and walked away wiMi the other two by scores of 11 to 5 and 7 to 3. At Sumter we took the first game on Thurs day, 8 to 4; were beaten on .Friday, 4 to 1; and on Saturday redeemed ourselves by defeating Sumter by the same score, 4 to 1. It is to be regretted that the pleasure of the games at Sumter on Thursday and Friday was marred by. tights between parti sans of the opposing teams. We hope that when Sumter comes to us, the experience will not be repeated. We are playing this week Georgetown here, and Darling ton on their grounds Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The meeting of the -county ex ecutive committee met at the oourt house on Mouday. A?>out twenty clubs were represented. I The committee was called to or der by chairman T. J. Kirkiand. After the calling of the roll, the very important matter of assess ments oj candidates was entered iuto. No attentiou was p*id to our suggestion to assess the office, and uot the individual can didate, the wiser heads of the committee having figured it out that $300 would be required to cover necessary expense's, and not $170. After some little dis cussion, the following tax was levied on individual candidates: Senator, $20; House of Rep resentatives, $10; Clerk of Court; $20; Treasurer, $20; Auditor, $15; County Supervisor, $10; Supt. of Educatiour $10; Probate Judge, $5; City Magistrate, $o; Country Magistrates, $2. This little matter being satis factorily disposed of, the fixing of dates for the campaign meet ings was approached. Mr. N. A. Bethunc stated to the com mittee that Hon. John G. Rich ards desired the privilege of malting a few remarks bearing upon the matter. This being ac corded, Mr. Richards requested the committee to so ariange the dates of the meetings as to per mit him, us a candidate to at tend all of them. Tnat he was almost compelled to be absent from the state from August 10th to 18th. This request was cordially ac ceded to, aud the dates were tixed as follows: At Beaver Dam, Aug., 7?li; Blaney, Aug., Hth ; IJethunc, Au?f., 21st; Kirkley's Mill, Au?., 22nd; Westville, 23rd, and C:un den on Saturday, Aug. 25th It was the sense of the meet ing, and so ordered that mana gers of the primary, or prima ries, if two were necessary, be paid $2, each for their services, and that this charge should be paid in preference to all, or any other expense incurred by tho committee. This is eminently rijjit, and we hope that this year every preciuct will be pro perly served, and that the r< - turns will reach the committee in ample season to be counted hNo other business of great importance was effected other than that all candidates must tile their pledges- and pay their as sessments to the secretary on or before 12 m., of Monday, Au gust. Otli. Considering the lightness ol the assessments, wo see no rea son why the list of candidates should not be largely augmented by that date, and we hope it will be. . Cur? Cold In .Heac:.
