The sale and use of whiskey under the dispensary law has not been, nor will it be minimized but has, on the other hand largely increased. The dispeusary lias never been, nor will be honestly managed, and Col. Sloan, not being omnipo tent, can't make black white. * * * "Elaborate tho county dispeu sary scheme if you want to abolish the state dispensary. I ain ready to debate it. We want to see the primary system perpetuated, and if the crop of candidates dwin dles from year to year, the sysr tem is doomed as it will be plainly evident that the people nave lost interest in it. FARMERS* UNION NOTES. "While our present crops are growing we should diligently keep account of tlte cost of our cotton crop and figure out to our own minds what would be a fair profit to each County Union upon the average, then let each State make the average. Tlian aggregate the aver age among all tho cotton States at one round up meeting and then drive down the stakes at a fair average and stand by these prices. The following sensible clippings from a leading article taken from Cot ton and Cotton Oil News should be good food for the minds of all cotton farmers : "If the New England States had the raising uf the American cotton crop instead of the South, cotton would be selling at twenty-five cents a pound." ''It is the custom of our people to tell you that 10 cents is enough for cotton. Moreover the great majority of our people are so ignorant of the proper value of cottop and cotton seed pro ducts. If the man who raises cotton says that ten cents is enough most certainly no one will dispute it and pay more if they can help it, though we inink 110 planter will say that ex cept the unwise one who has sold his crop in advance at ten cent. 1 If tneu in the grain belt went around saying six bits is enough for wheat, there would be tar and feathers wasted. If men went around saying butter is high enough at 15 cents a pound in the dairy cUstricts, there would be a baptisui in stale milk, llepoe it is with , unspeakable shame that we confess tho , South systematically runs down its own wares, and embarrasses both cot , ton and cotton oil products with de preciation, deuuncirtion, underated values and grosser carelessness in pre paring Cotton for innrKct. Let us all turn over a new leaf. Let us all con tend for lliu supremacy of the cotton and force the planter hears who are so 1 many short 011 the market now to have i a better price for cotton, the ginuer , to get a better and more uniform price for his cotton ginning and the cotton oil mill to get more for its manufactured product enabling them to pay for seed. All this is easy. I jet us tell the nations of the earth that our cotton is cheap at fifteen cents a pound, because the mills have been selling the cloth op a basis of that price for three years, and that cotton oil and meal is worth uniformly present prices. When we do this we shall in a small way begin to realize the Utopian dream of the most opti mistic cotton philosopher." Kershaw Dots. Mr. Editor ; Allow me space in your valuable paper for a few dots from this section. Crops, including grass are very good. Corn is just beginning to tassel and looks pretty. Mrs* Alice Horton is quite sick with fever. Mr. J. H. Crow, who left this section last January for Green ville, Ida., lias sold out his saw mill interests there, and has re turned home to stay. A number of those who went with him have also returned. They report this country as much better than Florida. Mr. H. L. Watkins has gone to the Southern Junction to over see the chain gang. lie will prove to be a good man for that position. Mr. and Mrs. Buxley spent last Sunday in the Bethune neigh borhood.
