According to the statemebt of the expert accountants appointed by the governor to make au ex amination of the accounts of the st;.t ? dispensary for the fiscal year ending November UOtli, 1905, the total receipts for the year having been 181,964.2*2. The stock of liquors in the state dispensaries amouuts to $543, 029.95 aud iu the couut> dispen saries of $409,689.71, *589,525.80 is due the school fund and thedis }*ensary owes accounts amouut ng to $544,050.89. Dees iu Mid- Winter. On last Saturday while a lady in this city was boiling over the stove a decoction of honey, mul lein and dog-f4unel, ? no, not that, k'trchottiul, a regular swarm of bees descended into the kitcheu. This incident in itself occurring as itdidin mid- winter, is remarkaole enough, but when coupled with the fact that no bees are kept within a radius of several blocks, it becomes still more remarkable. Soldier. j * * All Camden was shocked and grieved on Monday when the ue .vs was circulated that Mr. Joel Hough was dead as a re suit of a stroke of paralysis. The deceased was in his otfic? us usual on Saturday last, feel ing us well as possible, wheu he suffered a slight stroke of para lysis in his arm. Ue weut to his home immediately and retired. It was uot long before the whole side was affected aud finally lie lapsed iuto unconsciousness, io which state he remained until the end came- Monday morning. Mr. Hough was boru iu the upper portion of Kershaw county and 'spent his boyhood days on his father's plautatiou. When war was declared he volunteered under Capt. Cunningham aud went out with Company G,. Second regiment, Kershaw's brigade. He afterwards served uuder Capts. C. C. Haile and Jesse Truesdell, respectively. It is said that he participated in all of the actions in which Ker shaw's brigade served. He was twice dangerously wounded and was conspicuous for his bravery on more than one occasion. He served until the end of the war. Not only as a soldier has he rendered conspicuous service to his State. For eight years he was superintendent of education for Kershaw county. Later he represented his county two years in the legislature and was clerk of court from 1893 until the time of his death. He was a man of great iulluence in the county aud u umbered his friends among the hundreds. He was married to the daugh ter of the late Joseph Kirkland and is survived by her, five sous, J. F., S. M., I. C., C. K. aud Joel; and two daughters, Carrie and Niitinie Hough, also survive him. The fuueral services were con ducted from the Baptist church Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Mr. John Dabney, who for some time has been en gaged in work at Lancaster, died last Friday, about 2 o'clock. Hjs remains were brought to Camden Saturday morning, and t.akeu out to Mt. Olivet Baptist Church for iuterment. The fu neral services were conducted by Rev. Moore of Camden. Ty phoid pneumonia was the cause of his death. He was only 20 years of age. He was snatched away in the bloom of manhood although lie confessed to the last his time had come. He re ferred ii: his last Words to John 7 tli chapter and Gth verse. He was a member of the second Bap tist church of Camden. He was sick only a week before he died. He leaves a father, mother, and several sisters and brothers to mourn his loss. To t he bereaved family we extend our heartfelt sympathies. 'Tis hard to break the tender cord, When love has bound the heart, Tis hard, so hard to speak the word, We must forever part. The fanners are rapidly pre paring their laud for another year. We hope they will make another crop of ten cents cotton, as it has been the cause of many improvements. Miss Essie Robot ts, who lias j been spending some time with friends in Sumter, returned home Saturday. Miss Bessie Dabney returned home last, week after a very pleasant visit to her sister, in the Beulah section. The little infant of Mr. and Mrs. John Lewis has been very sick, hut we are glad to know that it Is improving. Mr. Joe Clarke of Camden, was visiting iu this section last Sunday. There is Sunday school every Sunday at the Chapel at 3:30 o'clock. We would be glad to see the school us large again as it is, for I am sure there are .more people who could attend tli u n do.
