At the last session of the General Assembly Senator Ridgell submitted a bill for the erection of a State administrative building. Unfortunately the measure was sidetracked in the rush of other matters. We understand that the Lexington senator has through the summer been trying to crystalize legislative sentiment in favor of such a project. We hope his efforts are proving successful, because such a building is greatly needed by the State government, not only for the better administration of governmental functions but for the convenience of the public who have business to transact with the various State officials. As the matter now stands the various departments of the State government are widely scattered over the - city of Columbia and it requires considerable time and patience on th? part of citizens of the State whose stay in the capital is limited to transact business with more than one de+>110 CnTTlP Of tllO P<Xi UllViiU JL/VU4UVW departments now housed in the State House are sorely cramped for room and valuable records are necessarily kept in such a way as pove almost less than worthless. For the financial side the State is now paying sufficient in. rent to carry all charges on a building entirely adequate to properly house the varied activities of the government under one roof, thus adding to the convenience of the public and the efficiency of administration without placing an additional burden upon the treasury. We hope that Dr. Ridgell 'will renew Vic offArt of Vio ?P?ir>n nevt winter and push it to a successful conclusion. FULL COLLEGES. One of our denominational colleges is advertising that its dormitories are full, while reports are constantly be: ing circulated of young men and women who are finding difficulty in matriculating with the institution of their because of the the colleges are already filled. It is gratify ng news to know that the 0 for higher ?< >.?cation is outstripping the omnaodaiionr. for cdoats. it is a wholesome sign that np the people are able to afford a college education for their children and are willing to spend their money for that -i jggj purpose. South Carolina will reap the benefit font-long years to come. Congress has set the sun back an hour and the anti saloon league may next stop the moon from getting full. - ? But for the Lexington county farmers Columbia's square meals would "be three cornered affairs. Burleson's aeroplanes may make new mail records, but he h. c. 1. still holds the altitude record. If "all things come to him who waits" congressman should certainly not go wanting. If this food by mail business is no faster than the regular mail service Uncle Sam better let the stock. remain on cold storage. The national debt now amounts to an average per capita of $231.10. S Taking into account the number"of newspaper men in the country the prospect appears gloomy to pay it off. Considering the low percentage of newspaper men who have succeeded in breaking into congress, "Billy" Banks may have the law of averages against him, but he will certainly add weight to the campaign for the senate. As an antidote to the high cost of living and the general unrest which ****** afflicts the country The Manufacturers Record thinks a revival of good old time religion win va eueuu\e. meic is something in the-suggestion. With the price of cotton going down and the price of liquor on the rise anti-prohibitionlsts are predicting a big increase in theeorn acreage next year. 4 This year's county fair should be f V one of the best. The time is fast approaching-. Let eveftr one ifctereisted ^et busy and make bo. '# y vy special notices.
