Constable Bateman^ who was seriously wounded was brought to a Columbia hospital and died Friday afternoon. The officers visited the ' scene Thursday and when they ran upon Barrett and Jim Sheron the men open fire on the officers. The constable wos shot and both of the men at the stiil were wounded. It is not thought that ^heron's wounds are seiious.Hc made his escape but surrendered the following day.
