Well this letter leaves me well now and hope to find you all ! well when it reaches you. . Well we i have been having some flu in the com i pany an i some pneumonia. Liord for the grood health that I have had since I left the States, for I hovent i | answered hut two sick calls yet and 11 mthankful for that and I thank the ! Lord to give me strength and good | health, till I reach home again. Well 11 am sure that there are not very ; many of the boys that made the trip } ny quicker than the fifty-fourth did | for we crossed the seav on Aug. 29th. ; and landed on Sept. 13th A little ! more than two weekh we were on the ( front of Verdun. There we started 1 to work and believe me we did-some i work there. The Fritzies shelled us i some but we didn't think that they | were going to hit us any way but some ; of the shells burst in fifty yards from [ where we were working. If there hadn't been woods between us .and we dug in the hill side to keep them from picking us off. I Well I was glad that I was in the big war. and Im proud of my experience of. warfareand the country .that I have seen. I saw some of Prance that was swept cleaner than any of the fields in the states and I ,wah in the % Argonne forest and there was some fighting done here. These woods were torn to pieces. Ice cream and a big birthday cake which yb?wed with its dozen white and yellow candles were served Then each guest drew a souvenii frbm the center <?f the table which was tied with yellow and white ribbon.
