TttsrovLgh information Teceived by telephone message today we learn <that a mass meeting was held in the town of Chapin Monday afternoon for the purpose of starting a movement to annex the Dutch Fork section of Iiexington county to Newberry. Just who started this movement we are un able to say but we have been told that this agitation grew out of dissatisfac- j tion arising over the recent bill of Sen j ator Ridgell to have the act repealed providing for two free bridges across flfetkida river. It is said several law * yers and politicians from Newberry were present and made rousing speeches inviting the people of this section to join with Newberry, who they promised would give them, free bridges and good roads. -EXTENSION OF TIME FOR RECEIVING GOVERNMENT NITRATE OF SODA. ftie Lexington Dispatch-News: Will yon 'please state through from: paper that the time for receiving applications for Nitrate of Soda has been extended to Fe?b. 15th. and parties deeking to apply may write me the amount they want giving P O Shipping Foist, county and time they want it end I will put in the application. OLIVER M. P LexingS ? w l Wm V % mtSaci*. * -r CAUSE OP WRECK LOOSE BEAM \ ? Frank W. Shealy, chairman of the railroad commission, today made the commission's report of the Piedmont & Northern wreck at the Enoree River bridge last Saturday, when four persons were killed and many others injured. Mr. Shealy holds that the wreck ''was brought about by either a ibrake beam or some tie rod in the front truck of the rear coach hanging so near the rails and striking the end of the iron guard rails about 30 feet south of the Enoree River bridge. The commission visited, the scene of the week after it occurred. The report follows: "From testimony taken and information received through reliable sour ces, train 6 on P. & N. Railway, going o lAl'ft nortn on reorutu> o, isu w*ws duJed to arrive at Enoree River bridge (a structure about 1,000 feet long- and about 90 feet high, all steel with concrete abutment and piers( at 10:50 a itl On this occasion I find the train was dead on time.
