Y.—A distin guished American playwright who twice was awarded the Pulitzer prize, and two members of one of America’s most famous families in public life were among those who last week made initial payments on life memberships in the NAACP. Robert E. Sherwood, author of such noted plays as “There Shall Be No Night,” “Abe Lincoln in Ill inois,” and “The Petrified Forest,” and the historical work, “Roosevelt and Hopkins,” made his initial pay ment to become a life member of the NAACP.
