RUNAWAY from the subscriber, on the I 25th day of last December, my Negro Man ELLICK, aged about twenty-five years;) a blacksmith by trade; uncoinonly large and fine looking in his person, with a broad open face; ; about six feet in height, aud has the scar of a burn on one of his hands, and also a similar scar on one of his thighs. Fllick has been traced as far as Camden, whither he went on the stage . from Columbia, and is undoubtedly endeavouring to make his way to the city of Baltimore, froin ! whence lie originally came, and with souie one j there (as has been ascertained from the Post : Office in this place) has had correspondence. Itis supposed that he has free papers, or is ma- < king off under the protection of some white per- i sou, ami will perhaps pass under Ihc name of Alexander Thompson, that being the name bv which he has been addressed by his Baltimore , correspondent.?Ellick had no cause whatever for this act of treachery to his master, having ' always been treated with the greatest kindness and indulgence. The above reward of $1000 will be given for the apprehension and lodgement of Ellick in any jail out of this State where I may find him, and for the detection of the villain who was accessary to his escape. From it the pride of the Nullifier must receive no diminution, the fidelity of the Unionist no reproach.? Of its critical purposes, it is not necessary to speak so minutely. In general, it will, of coarse strivo .0 guide the popular taste towards the best sources, in Knowledge, and the truest models in Elegant Letters. Its judgments will, hbwrver, found themselves upon the intrinsic 'merit of the author independent of his temporary renown or his birth being on this or the other side of the Atlantic. Towards the few good Writers that want of cultivation has yet permitted us to have, in America, it will know how to be respectful.? Put in Literature, as lately iu Trade, we shall in. sist that no man's bad commodity be forced upon second Monday in January next. This Institution lias for several years been favorably known to the public, and has deservedly received a libera! share of patronage. Prom this consideration, together with the many advantages of its situation, the Trustees are led to believe that nothing but competent and popular Teachers are required, to induce patronage from xbroad. The rates of tuition arc fixed at the very low amount of from ?bto?!lG per session, in advance; and Board, including every necessary comfort, may be obtained at from ?7 to ?10 per month, and where calculated together, will only cost a student from ?100 to ?150 a year.
